By a more recent ruling their rights held to have attached from the date of definite location of tbe respective roads The notice of withdrawal for the Mis ouri, Kansas and Texas road was re eeived at Topeka. April 1st, 1867. The date of definite location, as now claimed by the company and conceded by the department, was August 10, 1866. All the homestead entries made from August 10, 1866, to April 1st, 1867, a period of nearly eight months, though made in accordance with the rulings in force at that time, are now held to hare been illegal and have been cancelled, or are held for ooocellation.

Tbe withdrawal for the Mo. River, Fort Scott and Gulf road was received June 19, 1869. February 11, 1868 is bow eiarimed by the department as the date of definite location. Consequently all the homestead entries made between those dates, a period of more than sixteen months, though made in strict accordance with the rulings and instructions of the department then in force, are now can celled or held subject to cancellation. We shall first indicate the kind of a man the Farmers want. -1 "i He must'he i sympathy wish, their wants, and these wants arise in' Government" not-doing them justice.

By Government we mean the manner ia which the affairs of the Nation are conducted. 'As a single illustration, the Nation through its asent. Delano, robs the homesteader of his land and five years labor, and gives to a railroaJ, an aot of injustice and cruelty to the farmer in the administration of governmental affairs. The principles which underlie this Nation are right, but the administration of called Government, is bad. Tbe Farmers senator, therefore, must sympathize with the people abd by opposing the present rule, try to bring thing back to the' original principles of Jefferson.

On the contrary, he must not sympathize with any railroad corporation, nor have aoy personal interest therein. He can't sympathize with the farmer and the railroad at the same time, unless if would be upon the principle that a certain breeder of bull-dogs laved sheep he loved them for the dogs to eat. And more than sympathy, he brain to worU with in the interest of the farmer for his heart may be right and still the cause loat for the lack of ability. Congress is now full of imbeciles. But still more than both of these qualifications, he must be a man of courage.

From what I know of the history of that paper it has done battle in many a noble cause. When it required men and daring to attack the institntion of Human Slavery, the Sentinel marshaled its forces to the fray when the institution was demolished and the discordant elements had to be educated to an acceptance and appreciation of tbe new condition of eociety, tbe Sentinel contributed its aid to tbe work, and all along tbe record of years, it has not held back its influence, but has given it freely for the ernment, and not to the railroad, and thus may send a roncise statement of what they the interior or April 2a, 1871, known as the Boyd decision, it was held that all lands within railroads which appeared upon tbe record as covered by pre emp tion filings on homestead entries, at the time that the grant became effective, even excluded from the operation of the grant, and upon the subsequent cancellation of such filings and entries, reverted to the government, and became subject to new applications under the homestead and pre emption laws. Uoder this ruling many abandoned homesteads within railroad limits were bunted up by parties desiring to obtain tbe lands under the homestead law, their cancellation procured by proef at the expense of such parties, and new homestead made by them upon the lands.

Last Saturday, in Mound City, a few homesteaders met "ta device means and ular to advocate the cause of temperance in Linn county. One reason in particular I now think about, and one most generally adopted by anti-temperance people, namely that in granting lieense to ealoons to sell whisky a revenue is thereby created which can be, and is appropriated to defraying the expenses of tbe city or town wherein the saloons are located. This ar 3 JSE Ret vmx. I Buffered with plans for relief." They had received little letters from the officers at the land offices, stating that their homesteads were cancel cured by a simple remedy. As these parties have acted in good faith, and in accordance with the law, aa interpreted at the time by the department of the interior, and have been placed io their present position solely by the conflicting rulings of the department, they are justly entitled to some measure of relief from congress which shall secure to them tho quiet enjoyment of their homes. Leavenworth county has lost by having a Treasurer Coffee county, many thousands Jefferson ccunfy, many more thousands, and many Treasurers sus-picioned of having no funds. This is all satisfactory, since the State Treasurer was investigated by a committee of the Legislature two years ago, and found to have misapplied the State funds and pocketed money not his own, and was afterwards reelected with these facts fully before the eyes of the people.

Because the grievances of the people are greater in southern Kansas than in the northern or central part of the State, and redress of those grievances can only come from a reconstructed Congress 7.

Because the farmers as a class ought to aid their fellow farmers in trying to get their homesteads, of which they have been robbed by the Government. 8. Because Southern Kansas is and will be the great battle field of homesteaders and settlers against railroads, and here the Farmers party must win or hopelessly perish. In view of these eight reasons, and many more which the outraged farmer in this portion of the. State might mention, is tere any reason in sense or justice that the senator, should be taken from the northern or central portion of the State? We can't think of one, and we challenge the mentioo of one.

The total number from actual count, as kept by Col, Carpenter, foots up to the enormous amount of 2,448 wagons, averaging 403 each month.

Counting five persons as 'ho average to each wagon, we have 12,220 persons. And again, each team, harness, wagon and contents and whatever money possessed by the owner of the team, might be safely averasred at $425 each, and we have $1,040,400 or at least one million dollars worth of property in round numbers, have thus entered this State within the last six months at the above named point. To this may be added the value of strong, healthy men and women added to our population, who go out upon tbe broad lands of this State to make its fields to bloom as a garden. The above is one source of many by which emigration is entering Kansas. Thousands come by railroad, and thousands enter the State from every point in various ways.

Verily, this is the "Garden State" of the great West'. faataa, fcayiMH Wat, aa bis office directly from Grant, and he nods the bidding of all tbe railroad esrparations of this He is a cold, selfish railroad jobber. He has a heartof flint, not of flesh. This heart of his' feels not for the unfortunate toiler of the land, but sparkles at the touch of a railroad project. These homesteaders ask for relief.

Whom will they ask? Not Delano, hot Grant, not Congress, not the Government of tbe United States. These are ail in the interest of the railroads. Congress has no power, till you make a new one. The Secretary of the Interior will keep on doing as he has already done till you farmers and laborers make a new President, who will make a new Secretary of the Interior. In the mean time, yon homesteaders will have to look, to the State Courts for relief, and fight this whole matter on Call on your brother farmer who baa title to his acres to help yea by word and deed, for LEGAL NOTICE.

SENATOR It appears to ns that a United Statea Senator can he elected this winter by the Farmers. If they do it, it will be through wisdom and not through partisan prejudice.

We say by the Farmers, because they are the predominant power in the Legislature if united with the rest of the opposition to tbe regular Republican element. More than a third of the Legislature were elected on the Farmers' ticket nd less than balf of the Legislature were elected on the Republican ticket.
