Reports Progress In bortstVuctloa Wm Garland prssidorA of the- Gila Valley Globe Northorn railroad com pany accompanied by Engineer Chase arrived last Saturday their chief busi ness being in regard to the right-of-way through ths uppor end of town There appears to be some objection among property owners on ths west side of upper Broad street to the railroad Win ing down the street and Mr Garland has had under consideration ths feas ability of bringing his road down tht bank of the creek in the rsar of the 1 property in question The route is practicable but it would require that property owners give the railroad company a strip along the oreek at least 100 feet in width and i traot of land for depot site above the site originally BileoUd Tho change of roufo would also involve a large additional expense to the railroad company for the protootion of its road from high water Jl territorial law gives the railroad tho right to pass along and through any street ad iu the event of its being built down Broad street the oorapany would be under the necessity of protecUng its roadbed from possible floods and which we believe would givo almost equal protection to property abutting on the creek1 We do not know what coUolu Bion Mr Garland has reached but he is disposed to meet evory reasonable objeotion advanced by property owners As to the construction of the roadbed the excessive heat has hindered rapid work but fair progress has bean made on tho grado which has been comploted along the San Carlos river The bridgo crew is making headway All tho piers across tho Gila river Lave been driven nnd tho bridge seat Com ploted on two piers and begun on the third The piling over the San Carlos river was finished last Monday Atkins iu charge of bridge construction stated that the bridges would be completed August 10 but Mr Garland is of the opiniou that the work will require froni five to ten days longer As soon as the bridges are finished track laying on this aide of Sao Carlos will begiil and progress at the rate of about half mile a day The traok will bo laid to some point between Gil sons and the summit east of Globo by October 1 Patrick Ward of Ward A- Courtney contraaiors for tho construction of the railroad and Boss who is charge of the work were hero for several days thia week Mr Boss informed Us that their head construction camp is now located four miles below Gilsons and the second camp on Aliso crtek two miles from the San Carlos rivor Thoy have a vory good force mostly white men and now that the heat has abated better progress should be made Within week the advance camp will be moved to Gilsons and grading began in both directions and fotlr miles of grade completed Mr McGowaa in charge of tho Midland Construction outfit completed tho heavy work four miles this side of San Carlos and moved up to tho summit east of Giebe lat Saturday Mr McGowan is now in charge of the work at the summit He is experienced in rock work and with tn increased force will push work on tha long out la ore moro rapidly It is hard ground and will require considerable blasting It will take at least two month longer to finish the cut through tho summit and the Commercial Gos oorner with the hose cart within a minute or a minute and a half after ths fire boll sounded the alarm It is the best patent medicine in tho world is what Mr Hartinan of Marquam Oregon says of Chamberlains Colio Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy What loads me to make this assertion is from the fact that dysentery in its worst form was prevalent around here last summer nnd it never took over two or three doses of that remedy to effect a complete cure For sale by Hitchcock druggist CROSSED THE DIVIDE Death of Pete Gabriel ex Sheriff Of Plnia County and a Noted Character Word reached
