3G THE GAZETTE, SATURDAY, JULY 27, 1963 SPECIAL FEATURES 9 Convention set The GameiLof Kings BY D.M.LE DAIN The Teen Beat By Dean Jones ford-Smith Flight 20 sene Transpacific A set of five pictorial stamps was issuel by Anti-guea July 1 featuring tourist atrtactions of the island. gUBUKUSlIRREICH Austria issued a 2S. Stamp June 20 portraying the poet of the Austrian Alps, Peter Ro-segger (1843-1918). Three stamps of similar design were issued by Portugal July 10 honoring the 20th anniversary of the World Health Organization. Printings amounted to nine million of the one and a half million of the and half a million of the denominations.

Great Britain is withdrawing from sale in post offices the 5d. definitive stamp Aug. i mm, There has been a lot of talk around town this week about something called the Mind Excursion Centre, a place that's'' hidden away on Vallee Street, off Jeanne Mance. It's not a club, coffee house, discotheque or even a "fun house" as advertised it's just The Mind Excursion, a freaky place to go. I don't want to tell you too much about that would spoil the fun of discovering it for yourself.

I can tell you, tough, that just when you start feeling claustraphobic and want to run through a conveniently-located fire escape, they shift the mood and everything is groovy again; that there are subtleties of difference between even the most similar rooms; that you will have more fun if you take a friend; and that you should v. pay attention to the music. Personally, got hung up on the officially refer-'' red to as Kaleidoscopic Room, but you may dig somewhere else. I don't like the comparison, but the Mind Excursion is to an acid trip what a Picasso is to reality. It was better the second time around.

You may remember the pre-historic section of Expo's British Pavilion. There are points of similarity, but the Mind Excursion is better. Next week the Mind Excursion Department Store opens filled with "psychedelic" bumper stickers, buttons and electronic albums in plain brown wrappers, (the perfect present for your, pseudo-hippy friends). They'll hate the album and "luv" the cover. You, on the other hand, will hate the cover and love the album.

Do not ignore also their Award Winning Catalogue, I've filed it next to Bubbies Book for Boxer Buddies in my collection of all-Canadian trivia. For an explanation of its historical significance contact Dick Zander, Mike Hayden, Blake Parker, or John Mjlls-Cockell, of Intersystems Inc. Finally, you can refer to their comic book for help with the album, (stereo is mandatory incidently), or vice-versa. In September, the Mind Excursion will open a club, cum underground theatre, at the same location. The electronic music at the Mind Excursion and on the albums (there are three in all) is made with a synthesizer custom-built for Inter-systems.

In the Excursion, it's recorded on 16 specially-built stereo continuous tape machines. To he honest, I don't really understand how it works but to paraphrase! "I don't know much about electronic music, but I know what I like," and I like this. Kids under 16 aren't allowed in unless with somone over 16. (It's a law.) The president of the American Philatelic Society, Edward L. Willard, State College, will be the guest speaker at the banquet on the Saturday night. Among those giving talks at the convention will be Col. James T. DeVoss, executive secretary of the A.P.S., who will speak on the DeThuin counterfeits.

A fine program of philatelic and social events, including a boat trip among the islands, has been arranged. There will be a Honor of selected Court of material and a large bourse. It is interesting to note that the A.P.S. held their convention in 1917 at Alexandria Bay. The 82nd annual convention of the A.P.S.

Sept. 19 to 22, with the Rochester Philatelic Association as hosts, and a program of tours to points of interest is being arranged during the three intervening days between the two conventions.
