High School Tourney ,4 The annual high school tourney will again take place at the NDG Chess Centre (NDG Community Hall, Decarie and Cote St. Antoine during the holiday week, starting Dec. 26th and continuing daily until the 29th. There will be two games per day of the eight round Swiss system event, with the first round each day starting at 11.00 a.m. The tourney will be under the direction of Mr.

Philip Rubin with Mr. W. Hornung in charge of pairing. All chess sets and clocks will be supplied. Time limit: 45 moves in Vk hours, with 30 moves per hour from then on.

Students are to bring their lunches, but refreshments will also be available at nominal prices, as two games will be played each day. Entry is open to all high schools in Greater Montreal. Each school may send a team of six players (maximum), although a smaller number may be entered to represent a school. Age limit is 19. The entry fee of $1.00 per student is payable by the school.

The tourney will be nationally rated and students not yet members of the Chess Federation of Canada must pay a membership fee of 50c. Trophies and prizes will be awarded both to schools and individuals. Chess book prizes have been donated by a number of book stores. Last year 72 entries were received from 17 high schools, with Northmount High the team winner and presently holding the Frank Pollack Memorial Trophy. Gerald Rubin, North-mount, was top student.

This year's winner will receive a valuable 12-volume encyclopedia and the Hemsley Trophy, with the runner-up given a two-volume desk encyclopedia. The highest ranking junior (13 or under) receives the Daoust Trophy. The coach of the winning team will receive a trophy also. The first 75 players will be given a leather key fob with simulated ivory knights.
