Jottings in Pencil: ibut seems incongruous in the jazz Millionairess Doris Duke and business: Benny ordered Mousie amazed friend after Jones' recent visit to New York.

Executives at a major disc firm stop chewing gum and Mousie her piano-playing beau, Joe Cas FUNNY AC LO Fred Astaire and Kay Thompson, two fabulous pnterta inrrs of A typ that arp. not turned out Bny more, make this lightweight effort completely enjoyable. Mr. Astaire has been hoofing and delivering comedy lines for as long as we have been attending movies and Hiss Thompson is one of those performers whose magic touch makes every scene come vitally alive. Her material is brittle and polished beyond belief and her delivery has reached a ftatp of sharpness and crispness achieved by only a few artists.

These two. then, gallop through this musical comedy with minimum of effort and a maximum of style. The third star, Audrey Hepburn, adds her piquant beauty to the scene and her particular method of acting. About this last. When the elfin-faced Hepburn first appeared on the screen we were captivated, not only by her fresh good looks but by her method of speaking a line.

Well, the good locks are still there and are just as fresh, but we are becoming just a little jaded by her determinedly offbeat diction. Mr. Astaire and Miss Thompson play a fashion photographer and a fashion magazine editor and Miss Hepburn has the role of their reluctant model. On the same bill as Funny Face is a short feature on Montreal produced by Associated Scheen News. This is the first public showing of the movie which is destined to travel far abroad, giving other people a glimpse of our city.

It is in color and, for a quick look at the city, it is effective. All the main tourist attractions are covered quite well and night club frequenters will have a lot of fun picking out old friends in the sequence dealing with the cabaret circuit. THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN SNOWDON, OUTRE-MONT, STRAND, PAPINEAU, RIVOLI, EMPRESS, SEVILLE, CORONA Science fiction films are not usually our type of film fare but this one could hardly help pleasing anyone who Is interested in fantasy and suspense. It tells, in frightening fashion, of a radio-actively tainted man who starts to shrink before the horrified eyes of his family, doctors and friends. At first he is normal enough not to cause too much comment but then he becomes too small -lor reality and it is here where the film becomes really terrifying.

The fantasy begins when he is attacked by the family cat which'has become, in proportion to its master, a huge monster. In escaping from the cat, the tyiy man falls down the cellar steps and enters a pre historic world when life for man was all terror. Such a thing as a common spidpr becomes a huge enemy, a pin becomes a heavy two-handed sword and a length of thread serves as a stout rope to help in climbing the towering heights of an ordinary wooden box. The special effects department and the set designers deserve all the credit for th film. They have worked cinematic wonders.

TEN THOUSAND BEDROOMS CAPITOL- Dean Martin, the star of this film, seems to be doing very well without Jerry Lewis. As a matter of fact we like him much better now than we ever did before. Without Mr. Lewis's broad and not, to our mind, exactly hilarious clowning to take the attention away from him, Mr. Martin is proving to be quite a personality in his own right.

He is a relaxed actor and knows how to handle light comedy. He is just as relaxed a singer and is, in fact, a genial and friendly type generally. Here he is supposed to be a hotel magnate who becomes Involved with four lovely Italian girls. Anna Maria Alberghetti li one of them and Eva Bartok Is another. HEAVEN KNOWS MR.

ALLISON PALACE A rather coy and arch affair about an Irish missionary nun and a professional U.S. Marine who are stranded on a South Pacific island during the Second World War. Deborah Kerr, sporting1 a ferocious brogue, and Robert as a virtually tongue-tied American tough guy, try valiantly to give the. film some dignity and humor but they are, for the most part, bogged down by the script. There are some good action moments, though, to brighten things up from time to time.

THE BIG LAND PRINCESS Alan Ladd, whose expression has never been known to change no matter how tense the melodramatic situation he may be in, is once more back in the saddle and musing about walking steaks. Mr. Ladd is a pleasant man to have around. You always know where you are with him. When he is on screen nothing unexpected is allowed to occur and this is very restful for the constant movie-goer like yours truly.
