Match Bridge Had my first game of match bridge, the other night, and enjoyed it very much; and what is match bridge? Well it's a very ingenious way, for four players, to play duplicate bridge at home.

The mechanics of the game, though simple, are a little too long to explain here, but just let me say that, to the ones who are familiar with duplicate, they will find the game interesting and adequate. Be- ethical at club games (where few pairs keep and display convention cardi). If you play a "forcing" club, you must tell your opponents If you "psyche" occasionally, you should tell your opponents; your partner may not know when you are psyching, but he knows that you may, at times, and is on his guard, but your opponents seldom even suspect a psvche RESULTS M.A.A.A. Archibald. Mrs. Reshevsky's other loss was to The other night, browsing through Le Boulevard Club's library, I noticed a book written by one J. B. Elwell called "Elwell on Bridge." Leafing through the book, I came upon this Stem: To Prevent a RevokeIf your partner refuses to follow suit, always ask "Have you no (Hearts) partner?" An error may then be rectified, etc.

This sounded a lot like what I have been writing about lately, so I turned back to the fly leaf and saw that the book had been published in April 1902! So you can see, dear readers, that even 60 years ago the warning was out that you 'Should always protect the partnership against a revoke. See that you do it yourself at all times. And do you know what the book says about duplicate? Remember this is 1902: Duplicate Bridge Bridge when first introduced, was played almost entirely for a stake; but in the last few years, many players have taken up the game on account of its interesting possibilities and the intellectual pleasure it gives. Duplicate has therefore become very popular. The object of duplicate is to eliminate, as nearly as possible, the element of luck and to make the game hot no much a question of holding good cards as a comparative test of skill between players.

Even in this year and age, I don't think a better description of duplicate could be found, do you? 3. B. Elwell died on June 11, 1920 but the cause of his death Is still a mystery today, because, you see, Mr. Elwell was murdered and whoever killed him was never apprehended. Today his case still appears on the New York police blotter as one of its most famous unsolved murders (Note A very interesting article, written by Charles Goren, appeared in last October issue of McCall's Magazine treating on this famous case.)
