Dad Trisal will continue iu the livery business at Haven. Robert Borchert visited with his brother at Colwich Sunday. A few rabbits have been killed in this vicinity since Christmas-Two livery stables at Haven will do a thrifty business or Hot. Mr. and Mrs.

S. Brown spent New Year's day at Hutchinson. Paints, oils, glass and putty at J. H. Astles's hardware store.

Ballou returned to Kentucky again early in the week, and his household effects followed by freight Wednesday. Schools generally reopened after the holiday vacation on Wednesday morning, though a few took two full weeks' of rest. Universalist services will be held in Odd Fellows' hall, Haven, next Sunday. January 6, at ll a.m. and 3 p.

Last Spring the Haven school had a 'commencement," which the Iteii liberally and generously advertised, and in return we were not even invited to take notes of the occasion. Last Tuesday night a dramatic entertainment was given by the same sehool, or for its benefit, which we again liberally advertsed, and in return vrt remained at home, by courtesy of the management. Pluto will be able to skate all over his dominions before we again open our columns to the Haven school unless we change our mind. Pedagogue Spelling Bee No. 2.

Another Spelling Bee will he held in Masonic hall, Haven, Friday ev. ening, January 18. The plan will be the same as the former spelling. Pupils under thirteen years nf age will spell first and their spelling will be confined to the first fifty pages of McGuflfcy's Spwller. Pupils of t.ny age, who are now enrolled In any school in Haven township, will spell next, from the second fifty pages of McGufToy's Third, will be a free for all spell, from the last fifty pajjes of the bok.

Appropriate prizes will be given to the champion spsiler of each class. The exercises will be interspersed with vocal music and literary productions. Each teacher is especially requested to prepare a declamation. Five cents admission will be charged to defray expenses. Let all take an interest in this matter, and the entertainment will not only be a success, but lasting good will redound to the credit of the pupils of Haven township.

J. Caskey, F. W. Ash was a delegate to the GrundCampof Modern Woodmen of America, which met at Topeka last week. He and the other Woodmen here seem to have endeavored to keep this fact a profound secret, but we found it out, and thinking "better late than never," proceed to give it away.

While we are in the notion, we want to state that we nover saw a lot of lodges so hide bound that they feared to supply their local paper with items of news about their orders, such as elections of officers and similar matters that make no exposure of their unwritten work to their detriment, nor did we ever pubblish a paper where they did net keep directory cards standing in it. The expense of such a card is nominal, aud it serves to advertise lodge, inform their visiting brethren in regard to it, and slightly assists the paper. At this time the M. W. A.

have the only card in this paper. Why the various Secretaries do not furnish us with these items we don't know, and can attribute the failure only to laziness or a desire for unusual secresy.
