Burgess' store is in the Haven House parlor, Byron Erwin has a parlor meat market, Mrs- lir-win an ice cream parlor, tho hunk is now in the millinery parlor, and Dr. Huttou will soon have parlor drug store, and Dr. Ballou boasts a geuuiue parlor office.

Men who are too stingy to take the homo paper ought not expect a very long obituary notice. Col-wich Pointer. They do, though, neighbor, and we always take pleasure in graify-iug their ambition. In severaljiinrounding towns the Creamery business is being urged upon the gullible people, and men are urging the communities to or-srauize stock Cvnipauies. The cream ery business is uncertain, and it is best to go slow.

The creamery that has been in operation at Haven, in Ileno county, for son time and was supposed to be prospering has we understand, had to quit. The foregoing is about the substance of an item in one of our exchanges of last week that we had intended to copy exactly and com ment upon, but the loss qf the a oer prevents the proper credit. It is a mistaken intimation that the ereamery business is a sort of fraud upon the unfortunate neighborhood where one exists, as well as a mis lake us regards the Haven creamery The Haveu creamery has not quit, nor has its management any idea that it shall. That it can rain in Kansas when ever it wants to was fully demonstrated Saturday and Saturday night when what has been gener ally estimated at not less than eight inches of water fell. (Hilly Donnell l.sputes this quantity, and every one knows Joe Kenueck will swear to whatever Billy says.) During the day tho thirsty ground eagerly drank up all that came, hut the heavy rain during the niht came too fast. About 4 o'clock the little creek that runs under the railroad east of town Lecame dammed by stuff ledgin" igainst the bridge, and overflowed along tho south side of the track 11 it came through tho trestle and flooded W. Gould's farm and stood an inch deep on the floor ol his bonne. It flowed awav north- vvaid through the east part of town in a river two hundred yards or so wide, and was damned there by most of the men whose lauds it irrigated.

During the night lightning struck the chimney of Gould's house and knocked it into smithereens and came down through the roof and csiling into the house. Lightning also struck the Lutheran church spire, knocking off shingles and otherwise damaging the belfry and tower. The Missouri Pacific's track was considerably washed in a number of places and trains were somewhat delayed. Fields are well soaked, and farmers say will flourish nicely for a mouth without more rain. Pretty Prairie is trying to get a creamery, with indications of success.

If it is managed as judiciously as tho Haven creamery il will prove a most excellent invest-ment, both for the town and the farmers who supply it with milk, and everybody else within its business radius will fuel its benefits. It must be properly managed, however, to be of great value lo the community. It comes to our hearing Al. Race has trowu weary of single blessedness, and has made arrangements to join fortunes with a worthy widow of Haven in a short time. Here's to them both: but we can't forget that the elder Weller's advice always was: "Sain-i eel bevare of vidders." All "three mouths" subscriptions that begun with the first issue ot the Item expire with this issue.

It will suit us to have them promptly renewed. We have known woit-e papers man the It km sell a vear.
