Northmount Tops High School Teams Northmount High (R. and G. Rubin, D. Kaufman, F. Ahramovitch, J.

Finestone, D. Werbin) captured the high school team championship and earned custody of the new team trophy for the year. Montreal High (W. Hiritsch, K. Abolash, A.

Edel, S. Setter, F. Stevens, J. Cars-well) placed second. Scores were tabulated from those obtained by the players in the individual championship.

That is, both championships were decided by the play in one tournament. All schools entered six players each, with the exception of Montreal West and St. George's which entered three players each. Selection for entry was based on results of each high school championship, serving as preliminary contests. Final Standing PH.

(Look for Answers Mondav) FOR NELLIE ANDRESS card players generally heard of the sudden death of Gaston Hebert last Monday. He was a well known life master in bridge circles throughout Eastern Canada and the United States and was a member of the only Montreal team to with the team of four cup at the Canadian Nationals held at Toronto. CERCLE DE BRIDGE LAURIER The Laurier Bridge Club has been the home of duplicate bridge for "les bridgeurs" for many years. There has been a recent change of ownership and the club is now under the administration of Mile Hortense Pauze, well known local life master. Opening night was last Wednesday and duplicates will be held weekly on that day.

LOCAL NOTES There has been a great resurgence of interest in Montreal in bridge generally and duplicate bridge in particular in the last twelve months as shown by the large turnouts at club duplicates. In the public clubs such as the Vanderbilt there has been record attendance of recent months while the duplicate at the Linton Bridge Club which started earlier this month got off to a flying start. The same story is told by the bridge teachers all of whom record increased demand for instruction. It reminds us of the time we were receiving instruction in music appreciation. The professor (a bridge player) was explaining that in Elizabethan times people would visit one another to sing madrigals, each one singing his or her part.

As the professor explained it "It was a social requirement just like being able to play bridge in this age." We can't help fi THE HEAD I HOPE VOU (thanks Q. 1 As South, not vulner able, you hold: S. AKQ10 H. A D. 832 C.
