Fast. By OWEN One of the signs of activity in the Quebec Amateur Hockey As sociation for the coming season is seen in a worthwhile plan put for ward by secretary-treasurer Al- phonse Therrien, to prepare a roll of honor for players and officials of teams in the organization wno nave gone on active service in various Branches of the armed forces. This roll of honor should be one of the biggest in sports circles, tak ing in teams in me senior, iiivei-mediate, junior and juvenile. Executives of teams in the asso ciation last year are urged to com municate wun euner resident n. Norman Dawe or Secretary-treas urer Therien, forwarding names of players who have enlisted for active service, in order that the names may be placed on the roll Immediately.

Considerable work is needed to complete the roll. Although no meetings have been arranged yet for the Q.A.H.A. the secretary-treasurer has lined up an agenda for the first gathering. One item is the question of the resignation of vice-president Eddie Gro-nau. While the executive officer is now In Quebec for "the duration" in a war job.

it is hardly likely tne resignation will be accepted, the chairman figuring he is too valu able to be released, 11 even lor the duration." He will likely be given an honorary position, as happened in the case of Albert Read of Sherbrooke who also resigned when he took up a war position. The Q.A.H.A. is going to take a leaf out of the Ontario Hockey Association's book regarding organi zation of junior groups this season. Pittsburgh, Dusky Fox, aRough Going. Tar Miss. James. Beau- Illustrated today is a graphic picture of overswinglnr. If ear pictured player followed correct golf technique, it would be impossible for him to get his club in the position pictured.

Notice that his hip pivot has gone so far that his left foot Is perpendicular -5- 6 whereas fa is left heel should lifted only a scant two inches from the ground and bis left leg weight should be en the Inside of the rim of the ball of the left foot instead of being aa 70a aee it on the toe. The next flaw in this player's golfing form Is the very serious error of bending that left arm at the elbow. The left arm is always as nearly straight as yon can possibly keep It. Bat sines this player has bent his left arm, he has overswung into a position from which be cannot possibly hope to bring that clubhead back to the ball at the correct mechanical instant. This instant is reached when bis reversing hip and shoulder pivot, the down swing of the arms and the fall power of the hand-lash, which starts hip-high, blend into a single force at impact.

Now notice the dotied lines. They indicate the correct arm and band position at the top of a correct backswing. (Protacttd br Johs f. OUto Co NIXON CLAIMS SUPPORT Says Association Backs Stand On Suspension of Fair Toronto, September 17. 0.

If you think the war, with gas and sugar rationing and taxes, has im posed some perplexing individual problems, just consider the woeful plight 01 J. Alex Sloan, ol Chicago.

Sloan is the son of the late J. Alex who pioneered' dirt track auto racing. Exactly 70 days ago. young Sloan was a flourishing promoter of auto racing with contracts for $139,000 signed and sealed for 21 state fairs, 30 smaller ones. The next day, July 10, he was out of business, broke.

Joseph Eastman, head of the United States Office of Defence Transportation, had ruled auto racing out as part of the tire conser vation program, bioan cancelled his lucrative con tracts and was left with 18 racing cars, at the moment of no value. Then he conceived the idea of exhibiting top-ranking professional golfers in smaller communities. He signed lour Denny Shute. Ky Lafoon. Mike Turnesa and Raiph Guldahl, at $150 weekly each.

Business was no good. So, the ever-tryinn Sloan droDoed another bundle of folding money and still owes them $600 because their contracts do not exrjire until a week from tomorrow. Meantime. Sloan. 38.

married and with three children, had decided to join the navy. His rating came tnrouga as a machinist and also his orders, to report to the air station at Jacksonville, "at once," which, in terms of the navy, means within four days. The bewildered Sloan now Is six days "overdue" in reporting because hes trying to rind a way of paying off the golfera. "Ill probably wind up right the brig." he sighed today. And to make his situation ail the worse, Sloan owes $12,000.

One item which may cause considerable fuss at the first, meeting of the Quebec branch is the case of the Sherbrooke Club which is still under suspension, for failing to pay its dues last season. Sherbrooke won the Eastern Townships League crown but withdrew at the end of the season.

Tonight the Quebec Senior Hockey League clubs will gather to set their house in order and the meeting will be the first since the gathering last spring when there was some contrasting ideas among the delegates as to plans for the next campaign. There is still some question as to how and what clubs will line One report is that Shawinigan Falls, champion of the Montreal arid District Senior loop last winter, will apply for a However, in some circles this is not considered a possibility since the league is trying to cut down on travelling. He follows Hugh, who performed in the Q.S.H.L. for a few seasons, and Mike, who was a big figure in senior lacrosse, both of whom are now in the armed forces. Tomorrow's exhibition baseball game at Huntingdon between Ernie Mundey's Army Training Centre nine and Pats, senior Atwater League champion, has been called Torchy Peden Signs Up For Forum Bike Race "Torchy" Peden, the world's champion six-day rider; Rene Cyr, Montreal's outstanding cyclist; An-gello De Bacco, rugged Italian-American rider from Newark, N.J. and Charley Bergna, the crack sprinter from paterson, NJ, will be featured on the program of sprint races at the Forum a week from tomorrow night.

A big program of professional and amateur races will be run on the Saturday night preceding the six-day race. All the leading amateurs of Montreal and province of Quebec are expected to compete along with riders from the United States and Ontario. Manager Harry Mendel has requested all amateur riders wanting to ride at the meet a week from tomorrow night to forward their entries to him in care of the Forum. Bike fans were pleased to learn that Charley Logan, the United States soldier from New Jersey and Bill Anderson, the railroad engineer from Cleveland, Ohio, would be paired in the coming six-day race in the Forum. Logan made his initial appearance in a six-day race hero last year.

He had many spills but rode well, after leaving Montreal, Logan rode some mighty good races in Milwaukee, Chicago and Cleveland. Anderson is well known here and well liked by the local fans. Anderson rode last year with Joe De Bacco and the year before put up a great race, with the late Andy Mc-Connell. Anderson and Logan should make up an aggressive six-day combination. zar also ran.
