Rouiseaa'f New Snow Plough. The reads have never been in a belter con- lilion at this tiino of the year than they are at pieserit, iu spite ol thn complaints of a few ulcoiileiils. Every street Is almost 11s level 11 billiard table, and the unsightly minimis snow which used lo graeo the sides of the roots are seen 110 longer since the introduc tion of the new snow plough, In vented hv Mr. Rousseau, East end of the Road department. This machine is drawn by horses aud scoops the snow at the side of tlie road arid deposits it iu the centre, where it is distributed by men with shovels.

It is probable that iu tho near future another machine ill be brought out to follow tho plough anil lihtrihute the snow. Mr. Rousseau's planer is second only iu importance to tliu snow plough. It is fitted with a knife which cuts way the snow ami ice along the sides of tliu horse tracks and deposits the same in tho entre, thus preventing tliu truck from being worn away. The sidewalks, too, are much better kept than iu former years.

The City Surveyor found that though the police are supposed to notify peo ple who neglect their sidewalks, tho work is not done to his satisfaction, aud ho cun- seiuently instructed Mr. l''lynn to take the matter in his own bauds. Since, then the complaints live almost entirely ceased. It must be said for tho police that only a very few are on rpeciai duty, and their time is prutty well taken up with attending to theatres, etc. The arrangements of tho do-partmcnt are so thorough that should a heavy thaw on all the section men would bu turned out at once and kept at work without cessation until all lie drains are opened.

Tho householders are supposed to open the gutters along the front of their houses themselves. THE BOARD OF REVISORY To Mold a Final Meeting To-day-The Htatute Labor Tax-The Voters' Liita Still Open. Tho writ of appeal Against the Judgment ol tho Superior court in the Statute Labor case has been issued, and the case will bu t-ikeu belore the Court of Queen Bench in Appeal. The voters' lists should have ben signed by the revisors ou the 18th or l'Jtli as soon as their work was completed and countersigned by the City clerk, but this has not yet been done, so that alterations can still be made shi.nld the board see sufficient reason Another, aud probably the final meeting of the board will bo held this afternoon. Mr.

Roy. city attorney, in conversation with a representative of the Gazette, stated yesterday that tlicro was not the slightest risk of the revisors laying them selves open to civil or criminal suits by their action in the matter, as the dispute was merely a question of law. lie had never yet heard of a public officer being nu prisoned for erring on a point of law. The losing party would have to pay the costs, but if the revisers lost the case the costs would bo paid by the city. The opposite side might take out an injunction to prevent tho city from paving it, but he did not think there was any chance of their succeeding.

A OT ABLEJ3ENTENHI AL. The Approaching Centenary of Fresbyterianism in Montreal. On the 12th of March, 1780, the Rev. John Bethune gathered together tho Scotch resi dents of Montreal in a large room in Notre Dame street, and after divine service there and then organized a Presbyterian congrega, tion. A considerable proportion of the Eng.

lish speaking citizens of that day were from Scotland, some of whom had been in the army, and others who had came to Canada to prosecute the fur trade. Mr. Bothune, father of the lute Dean of Montreal and of the late Bishop of Toronto, hud served as chaplain to the 81th Regiment (Highland Emigrants), aud, when the regiment was disbanded after the conclusion ot peace with tho united States, he took up his residence in Montreal. bo to this time all the Protestants 111 the city and district had been miuistered to by Rev. D.

C. DeLisle, who was styled rector of Montreal and military chaplain. Tne Scottish merchants belonging to tho North west company were among the most liberal supporters of the Euglish Church, and some of them seem to have belonged to Doth communions, and even to have held office in both churches at least from 1786 to 1790. Mr. Bethune continued to minister according to the forms of the Church of Scotland, to which he belonged, until the 6th-.

May, 1787, when he removed to Glengarry. From that date until the Rev. John Young visited Montreal, in 1790, there appears to have been no regular Presbyterian services held. Mr. Young came (under the care of the presbytery of Albany) in 1791, and since the 18th September of that year there has been constant service held in accordance with Presbyterian forms.

Out of the small beginning by Mr. Bethune, there has grown a very large community. To-day the Presbyterian churches of the city, all told, number seventeen. This is a good showing of work done in a hundred years, and the congregations belonging to that com munion have a good warrant lor their proposal to celebrate the centenary of the founding of Fresbyterianism in this city. It has been resolved to hold a meeting in Knox church, which has hod an intimate connection with the history of Presbyterianism in Canada, on the evening of Friday, March 12.

The pastor, Rev. James Fleck, B.A., will preside, and addresses will be delivered by Principal MacVicar, Rev. Geo. H. Wells and the Rev.

Dr. Reid, of Toronto. The subjects E. R. C.
