Both men were intimate friend of tbe proprietress of the bouse, Lizzie Johnson, and a quanel arose from ber refusal to go out in a hack with tbe man who did the shooting. The man threatened to shoot the woman, at tbe same time drawing bis pistol. Flanaban stepped between them and attempted to turn the weapon aside. Instead he received the bullet in his abdomen. The murdered man came to Chicago from Toiouto, two years ago and bas worked in a restaurant.

The Inoculation Experiment. Naw Vobk, July 19 Tbere is no change in tbe condition of Harold Newell, son of Dr. Newell, of Jersey City, who was bitten by a mad oog. and subsequently inoculated by Dr. Mott.

Dr. Newell concluded yesterday to reopen the wound, which be thought bad healed too quickly. There is hope that tbe boy is passing through a mild form of hydrophobia, produced by the inoculations, and that the virus of tbe bite bas been mitigated or nullified. AHldler'flalelde.
