Cava died at his home, 373 Manhattan Brooklyn, Tuesday. BAKER BROWNELL Fairhope, April 7 (AP) Baker Brownell, 77, a professor emeritus of Northwestern University, died Monday. A RADIO-PHONOGRAPH DILOWA HUTUKHTU The Dilowa Hutukhtu, 82, the living Buddha of the Yellow Sect of Mahayana Buddhism and the highest ranking Buddhist lama in the U. died of cancer yesterday in his tenement flat at 204 E. 32d St He once was the head of three lamaseries and spiritual and temporal ruler of 900 lamas.

A distinguished Orientalist and Buddhist scholar, the Dilowa was considered by his followers to be the 19th reincarnation of a 9th Century Buddhist saint From 1912 to 1921, he was governor of a Mongolian province. But as the Soviet Communists consolidated their rule there, he was forced into exile in 1931. He lived briefly in Peking, where he became godfather to David Lattimore, son of Prof. Owen Lattimore, formerly of Johns Hopkins University and now of Leeds University in England. He spent three years in Tibet as tutor of the present Dalai Lama.

Later in China he became a member of the Kuomintang, the tuling party headed by Chiang Kai-shek. When the Communists took over China in 1949 the Dilowa came to the U. S. GORDON F. WING Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M.

"Hiram C. Todd, 88. a lawyer who served as special investigator for three New York governors "and helped remove Gov. William Sul-zer from office, died today in Columbia Memorial Hospital. A lawyer for 65 years, he served as a special investigator for Govs.

Roosevelt, Lehman and Dewey. A Republican. Todd was named U.S. attorney for northern New York in 1921. It was there that he came to the attention of the state officials because of his ferreting of prohibition violations.

274 Ave. until Sat. 9 A.M. 17th U.S. Air Force, at Ram-stein, Germany, died today of a brain injury suffered during1 a parachute jump a Mannheim April 2.

He suffered brain damage when his parachute failed to open properly during a training jump and had been in a Gen. John K. Hester coma erer since. As commander of the 17th Air Force, Hester had gone to jump school to better understand the Air, Force role in providing support for the Armv. During World War II he flew 50 combat missions against the 'Japanese from bases in China.

He won the Distinguished Hying Cross, the Bronze Star and Air Medal. Aid to Symington After the war, he began a series of assignments that included a tour of duty as military aid to Stuart Symington, then Secretary of the Air Force. In 1949, Hester joined the armed forces special weapons project at Sandia Base, N.M., as executive of the operations division. He became Air Force assistant vice chief of staff three' years ago, a post he held until last September when he was given command of the 17th Air Force in Europe. BILLY FRIEDBERG Beverly Hills.

April 7 (AP) Billy Friedberg, 49, New York-based television producer-writer, was found dead of an apparent heart attack today at the parent heart attack today at the home of relatives. RUDOLPH THOMAS Rudolph Thomas, 77, an associate professor of music at Columbia University, died yesterday at Norwalk Hospital, Nor-walk, where he had been hospitalized since suffering a stroke in December.

Thomas, who lived on Silvermine Ave, Norwalk, was conductor of the Albany Symphony Orchestra before joining the Columbia staff in 1937. CHARLES H. MARDENFIELD Charles H.
