DAILY NEWS, MONDAY, MARCH 2, 1936 S3 OPENING TONIGHT "Dear Old Darling." comedy by and with George M. Cohan, will open tonight at 8:30 at the Alvin Theatre. ARTEF DRAMA The Artef Players will present their third production of the season, a Soviet historic drama called "Hirsch Lekert." Thursday nijrht at the Artef Theatre in W. 4Sth, St. Edwards to Vaudeville Plans New Revive as Carroll Type Show "The Ziegfeld Follies," having taken over the entire house.

Helen Keller will be one of the audience, lis Bronx, by a unit of the Federal Theatre Project. Alexandra Carlisle heads the cast. FOR STAGE RELIEF "Co-Respondent Unknown" will be given an extra performance at the Kitz Theatre Sunday night for the benefit of the Stage Belief Fund. Edwards has taken over the Gus Edwards Earl Carroll Broadway Theatre, at B3d formerly B. S. Moss Colony, and will there attempt to re-establish two-a-day vaudeville beginning in April. The theatre will be renamed Edwards' Show Window. Edwards's plan is for what he calls revusical vaudeville, in which new talent and standard vaudeville acts will be combined, along with a chorus, sketches, blackouts and revue numbers.

Tickets will sell for 1 top, and there will be a Saturday midnight show Consisting of auditions for new talent which, of course, has been Edwards specialty. Less is known about Earl Carroll's plan. But it is announced that he is negotiating for the Hollywood Theatre, Broadway at. Blst, and hopes to rename it the Earl Carroll Theatre. Here he would present "a new form of en tertainment, involving renovation of the theatre and a chorus of 144 girls.

It has not been said whether the place will remain a theatre or be converted into another restaurant-cabaret, Producing managers will meet this morning at the League of New York Theatres quarters to plan a campaign of opposition to the new contract of the Dramatists Guild. One of the last play purchases under the old contract was made "by Crosby Gaige, who acquired "Mighty Man," a drama, from Milton Lazarus. It will not be produced until Fall. THEATRE NOTES Morris Gest's production of "Lady Precious Stream," with Bramwell Fletcher, Helen Chandler and Mai Mai Sze among t.h leading players, will move today from the Booth to the 49th St. Theatre.

"The first orm-ance at the new location will be tomorrow afternoon, since there are no Monday ormances. Another play which will Helen Chandler 'drop Monday performances is "Victoria Regina." Helen Hayes' Tuesday night broadcasts will end late this month beginning March SO the Monday performances will be dropped in favor of Tuesday performances. Watson Barratt will design the Bettings for "The Case of Clyde Griffiths" The Temple Beth-El has bought the entire house of "Danger Men Working" melodrama after a tryout, and will hav it rewritten by Ellery Queen and Lowell Brentano. It was to have come to Broadway next week. The new version will have a Summer tryout at CapeCod "At Home Abroad" begins tonight its last week at the Majestic Theatre The Palestine Lighthouse will hold its tenth annual theatre party tomorrow night at Er Af 1658 WAV at 51ft St.
