8:19. 10:17, 12:15. I I At 1 1 1 a fine tenor voice, sing the melodious Kern score. And Winninger, Too. Charles Winninger is the Captain Andy Hawks, whose hilarious "Hap-py New Year" greeting is an unforgettable memory and whose description of the various parts of a melodrama, as he acts out each role, is still one of the funniest scenes in the play.

Helen Morgan, in fine voice and looking more attractive than she ever has appeared on the screen, again plays the unhappy Julie most effectively. Her acting and singing of the familiar role still has the power to bring tears to the eyes and a lump in the throat. She does full justice to "Can't Help Lovin' That Man," and "My Bill." Paul Robeson Scores. Just to hear Paul Robeson sing "Old Man River" once again is a great pleasure, as his magnificent tones roll out from the screen. He is the lazy Joe of the piece and besides singing the old song, Jerome Krn and Oscar Hammerstein become popular all over again.

We'll be hearing "Make Believe," "My Bill," "Why Do I Love You," "Cotton Blossom," "Old Wife" and "Can't Help Lovin' That Man" whistled and hummed all over the town. Widespread reports were circulated tonight in British financial circles of an impending financial crisis in Germany. Authoritative sources said, moreover, that British banks have received confidential notice from the Government not to extend further credits to the Reich until reports on the German financial situation are more reassuring. Both Government and private banking circles recently have denied extension of new credits to Germany. where Magnolia made a hit singing' her Negro songs, has been re created on the stage and the entire stock comDanv takes nart entertainment. Sammy White, who was also in the original production, plays Frank, but instead of Eva Puck, who was with him then, Queenie Smith appears as his dancing partner and makes a good job of it. Helen West ley, a new Parthy Hawks, plays the nagging wife and mother with spirit and force. All Players Excellent.

The balance of the cast, which includes Donald Cook, as Steve, Hattie McDaniel, as the comic cook, Sunnie O'Dea, as Kim Ravenal, and J. Farrell MacDonald, as Windy, is excellent. Many Lovely Tunes. The Ferber story, which has grown so familiar since it first appeared in book form, because of the Ziegfeld production and an earlier moving picture version, made by Universal in 1929, which was not entirely audible, was so well fashioned that it still has the power to touch the emotions. As James Whale, who directed the picture, points up the various dramatic incidents, they seem as real as they ever did.

Kern and Hammerstein have added "Gallivantin' and "I Have a Room Above Her," to the other lovely tunes which are bound to Kim (at sixteen Sumiie O'Dea Peter Arthur Hohl Vulitui Charles MiiMleton 7EEK I J. Perfectly Cast. A great deal of loving care, much attention of detail and an enormous amount of money have been expended on this new edition of "Show Boat." It is perfectly cast, with many of the players who helped to make stage history in the original production again playing the roles which they made famous. Irene Dunne is the lovely Magnolia Hawks Ravenal, daughter of the showboat proprietors.

She is entirely at home in the role which she played all up and down these United States in the No. 1 road company of the Ziegfeld production. Her voice is sweet and clear as she and Allan Jones, who plays the romantic role of Ravenal competently, and is the possessor of 137,423 persons have already seen and cheered Bobby Breen in this singing comedy hitl You, too, will agree that he is the 'Season's Sensation' i The presentation of "Show Boat," on the Music Hall screen, is a fitting gesture, of farewell on the part of the Laemmles, Carl Sr. and as they bow themselves out as the producers of Universal pictures. The years which they have given to the making of films under the Universal banner are capped by this beautifully lavish production, which is based on Edna Ferber's colorful novel of the same name Sol Lesser prtstntt IH in An RKO-RADIO Piclur with ARMETTA GEORGE HOUSTON INEZ COURTNEY Wf7 mmF f.Mmw, Love makes the world and the I 1 wheels go 'round at a dizzy ts' i I speed in the romance that I 3- 'j.
