TTTTT TT jilll l.o Family News 2B Happenings Dear Abby 4B Comics 6B School Menus 7B Dr.Gott 7B so EC Datebook Turkey Calling Contest Turkey callers will cluck, yelp, gobble and hoot in quest of trophies and a shotgun March 31 when the Piedmont Jaycees host the 10th Annual Southeast Missouri Open Turkey Contest. Trophies will be awarded in 10 classes and the caller with the most points at the end of the contest will win a Winchester Model 1300, 12ga. turkey gun. Contestants will compete for the Youth Championship, PeeWee Championship, Gobbling Championship, Mouth Calling Championship, Owl Hooting Championship, Wing Bone-Yelper Collectors will have a chance to bid on sports, movie and music memorabilia, as well as numerous other items, at the Shepard House Auction Saturday night. The auction will feature actress Lani O'Grady, and all proceeds will go toward restoration of the Bonne Terre landmark.

Tickets are still available. Cost is $12.50, said event chairman Diane Schnable, and the tickets are available at Commerce Bank in Bonne Terre and Desloge and Don Hawk Supermarket in Bonne Terre, or from any member of Old Bonne Terre, Inc. The auction will be held in the basement of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bonne Terre. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, when guests will have the opportunity to meet with Ms. O'Grady and view the auction items. Hors d'oeuvres will be catered by Lamplight Inn. Bidding will begin at 7:30. Auctioneer is Tooter Gower.

A number of items for the sports-minded, celebrity lovers and autograph hounds are available as well as many items donated by local businesses. Sporting items include: numerous autographed baseball cards, a 50th Anniversary Yearbook 1939-89-National Baseball Hall of Fame, an autographed basketball from the Philadelphia 76ers and three Detroit Tieers bat hats. Ozzie Smith's batting helmet will also be on the block as well as an autograpnea copy of Whitey Herzog's White Rat. There will be autographed pictures of Brian Benning and Luc Robitaille of the LA Kings, a poster of the 1988-89 Blues Hocky Team with some autographs and jersey number 93 Wilson from the San Diego Chargers. There will be several Sport Magazines donated by Los Angeles Dodgers and two Sports Illustrated autographed by Chris Everet.

AutoeraDhed Dhotos of several Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, one of Jimmy Johnson of the Dallas Cowboys and AC Green of the LA Lakers will be available for bids. A baseball autographed by the Philadelphia Phillies, a basketball autographed by the coaches of the University of Illinois and an autographed football from the Los Angeles Rams are available. There will be a poster of the Pittsburgh Steelers. an autoeraDhed coster of the San Francisco 49ers and five hockey sticks from the Minnesota North Stars. A 1964 Sports Illustrated with the Top 20 teams has been autographed by Bill Bradley.

Handcrafted in 1915 by Italian and German craftsmen, the Grand Ole Carousel is comprised of 68 snorting horses, two chariots, and over 2,000 lights. Miooiianpnns items include a Dhoto book of Barbara Mandrell, Clydesdales mailbox, collector dolls of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez and two T-shirts from Warner Brothers Studios. A lithograph autographed by Tony Bennett, a keychain from Paramount Studios and overnight accommodations for two to the Clarion Hotel, St. Louis will be up Lani built for the Screamin' Eagle, the huge structure underwent a major face life.

From October 1989 to April 1990, painters climbed the 110-foot-tall coaster to laboriously apply 10,000 gallons of fresh paint to the 105 miles of lumber that constitute the world-famous Screamin' Eagle. The major contribution to the increased speed comes from the fact that each car, with the exception of the lead car, only has two sets of wheels versus four, thereby creating less friction and less resistance on the track.

Quick acceleration and a sense of weightlessness, caused by the space i 1 and Stetson hat with hat pen should capture the imagination of star watchers. There will be an ABC 20th Anniversary tote bag, four Star Trek coffee mugs, two Arsenio Hall Show coffee mugs, a hand painted Star Trek picture and Missouri Lotto memorabilia. Local merchants have donated: assorted items from Bonne Terre Handi-Craft, one case of 10W30 motor oil from Bonne Terre C-Mart, a signed, numbered and titled etching by Peg Paulausky and a signed, numbered and titled print by Dan Paulausky. Autographed items include: an autographed hat from Channel 2 News Team, Larry Gatlin's autographed stage shirt, Steve Gatlin's autographed golf shirt and Rudy Gatlin's autographed golf shirt. Autographed photos include: JoAnn Willette, The Ten of Us; Ann Jillian, Ann Jillian Show; TG Sheppard, Loretta Lynn, William DeVine, Knots Landing; Elvira, Wilma Lee Cooper, complete cast of Full House, The Oak Ridge Boys and Mel Tillis.

Autographed scripts include: Full House, Loving, Ann Jillian Show, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Disney's The Nut House, The Famous Teddy The Young and the Restless and The Days of Our Lives. Photos, not autographed, include: the complete cast of Cheers, the complete cast of The Young and the Restless and an 8x10 picture of each member of the Channel 2 News Team. Albums, tapes and CDs include: Loretta Lynn, Live from the Wheeling Jamboree; two autographed albums of John Conlee, Fellow Travelers and an autographed CD Soldier of Love by Donny Osmond. Celebrity guest Ms. O'Grady is best known for her role as the oldest daughter on the television series "Eight is Enough." She began acting at age 6, and her career includes appearances on "High Chaparral" and numerous other series and commercials.

Her brother, Don Grady, portrayed son 1 Robbie on "My Three Sons." Ms. O'Grady also volunteers as a counselor for drug and alcohol abusers. Celebrity items for the auction were collected with the help of R.W. McMurray, author of "Reaching for Your Star." The Fulton, resident arranges benefit auctions for a number of organizations. Old Bonne Terre, is seeking donated items from community members and will arrange to pick up the items.

Adding to the special excitement at Six Flags this year, the 200-acre theme park is beginning a year-long celebration in honor of Bugs Bunny's 50th birthday. The new season features autograph sessions with America's favorite rabbit at this own personal dressing room and all-new "Bugs Bunny Fantasy on Ice" show. From June 15 through August 26, the "Bugs Bunny 50th Birthday spectacular" will light up the nights with an elaborate fireworks display. The whole park is set for the party as is evidenced by all the festive decorations.

All the Six Flags favorites and an array of special events, including a spectacular line-up of celebrity concerts, also await guests in 1990. The park opens at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, and will be open weekends only through May 20. The park's rides, shows, and special events are included in the one-price admission to the park. Newhart comes from an atypical background for a comedian.

Rather than suffering through a childhood filled with neglect, he enjoyed a warm and comfortable family life in Chicago, 111. He graduated from Loyola University with a degree in commerce and then joined the Army for two years. While holding down a series of jobs, Newhart performed in a theatrical stock company. Worlds. of Fun A festive day is planned as Worlds of Fun at Kansas City opens for its 18th season on March 31 The marching Cobras, over 20 clowns, jugglers- and mimes, Worlds of Fun's costumed characters and park officials will participate in a parade to begin at 9:30 a.m. The parade will be followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony at the park's front entrance to christen the new season. Worlds of Fun will be open on Saturdays, Sundays and Good Friday through May 20. Daily operations begin May 26.

Campgrounds Open Campgrounds will open March 31 at Wappapello Lake. Campers may stay either Friday or Saturday night free. Open House will be held April 1 with the public invited to tour the campgrounds and see what new at the lake. Activities planned include a nature walk on the Pine Ridge Trail at 1 p.m. There will be a gatehouse tour at 2 p.m.

A video "At The Helm" will be shown at 2:30 and 3 p.m. at the maintenance building. Staff will be at the Wappapello Lake Management Office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to answer any questions.

Quilt Show Booneslick Trail Quilters' Guild will sponsor their quilt show May 10-13 at the Bonne County Historical Society Museum, 3801 Ponderosa Drive, Columbia. Show times will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

I On April 7, as Six Flags Over Mid-America enters the 90's, the Screamin'Eagle wooden roller coaster celebrates an important milestone after traveling 490,688 miles since its debut. In 1990, hold on to your hat because the best is now faster as the Screamin' Eagle soars into its 15th season with faster cars. Built in 1976 as the world's longest (3,872 feet), tallest (110 feet), and fastest (62 mph) roller coaster, this popular "woodie" now boasts an exciting, new look with new faster cars reaching speeds up to 70 miles per hours. While new cars were being designed and An Evening with Harry The Boatmen's Super Set Series will present An Evening of Magic with Harry Blackstone April 27-29 at the Fox Theatre. Show times are Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday 3 and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Harry Blackstone is the gifted son and professional heir of The Great Blackstone, America's legendary creative magical genius. Under the master's watchful eye, he grew up learning the elements of his exacting craft.

Today, carrying on the tradition of excellence set by his father, Blackstone performs such world-famous illusions as the Floating Lightbulb, the Vanishing Birdcage, the Dancing Han dkerchief and the Buzz Saw. In both 1979 and 1985, Blackstone was named "Magician of the Year" by the Academy of Magical Arts. He has created and performed in the largest and longest-running magic and illusion show ever to I play on Broadway. He has guest-starred in numerous television series, as well as hosted his own magic specials. His latest contribution is his recurring presence on the daily PBS series "Square One TV," where he teaches mathematics to young Standup comedian Bob Newhart set for Fox Theatre of Magic Blackstone people by combining conceptual thinking with magic.

Blackstone is also a recipient of the coveted Star of Magic, an honor awarded to only 11 magicians in history. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Comedian Bob Newhart has enjoyed many years of popularity through his recordings, live performances and enormously successful television series. His first comedy album, "The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart" sold more than 750,000 copies in the United States and was the first comedy album to reach number one on the album charts. His first television series, a variety show, won him both an Emmy and a Peabody Award. His second series, "The Bob Newhart Show" debuted in 1972 and ran at the top of the ratings through 1978.

It was followed by his current series, "Newhart" which is now in its eighth season..
