E. PARKS 79 MILLER RESIGNS PASTORATE HAS NOT FULLY DECIDED JUST WHERE HE WILL GO Rev. Orley L. Miller, who has been pastor of the al church here for the past two years or more, last Monday placed his resignation in the hands of the church trustees, to take effect at once. While it has not been announced definitely that Rev.

Miller's resignation has been accepted, it will no doubt be done at a called meeting of the trustees. In Rev. Miller's removal from Garnett the church and Sunday Schools of the county will lose a hard working and conscientious worker, and the city will lose a mighty good citizen. Rev. Miller has taken a keen interest in public affairs and, as a member of the Booster club, has helped to boost the town.

He and his estimable wife will be missed in more ways than one and their host of friends wish them every success wherever their lot may be cast Rev. Miller has not decided definitely where he will go from here, but has calls from Kirwin and Osborn, Kan. The congregations of both these towns are very anxious that he come to them, and it is probable that he will choose one of the two places. It has not been announced yet just what arrangements will be made for services, but some plan will be formulated to have preach- ing services until a regular pastor can be secured. Rev.

and Mrs Miller expect to, be ready to move from Garnett the last of this week. Public Library is Public Cooperation A public library is a form of co-operation, whith secures for the individual, luxuries which he could not otherwise afford. Instead of buying SO many books and magazines which wear out on the shelves after one reading let us "pool our issues" and put the multitude of small sums in one fund, buy the best at the lowest prices, and then use the volume so bought for the good of all. We need spend no more money each year for literature, but we need to save the wastage due to unused books, foolish purchases, book agents, commissions and needless profits-and we can have a public library without much cost. A public library in this town may help our neighboring farmers as well as our townspeople.

They cannot support libraries in their small communities. Let 1 us join our forces for mutual advantage and have a good library and a wider community of interests. Foot Ball Game is Called Off Owing to the snowy condition of the field and the severe weather the foot ball game between Garnett and Gardner has been called off. The game will probably be played on the home grounds in about a week, weather permitting. Mr.

and Mrs. J. Q. Wycoff of Topeka arrived today to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Wm. Wycoff and family. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Wm.

Porter. She is a sister to Mrs. Wm Wycoff. They expect to hold a family reunion Thanksgiving day. Look out for the baloons.

0. E. Parks. AGED PIODEER PASSED AWAY LEFT HERE FORTY YEARS AGO BECAUSE WIFE WAS SUFFRAGETTE James Fisher Walker, aged about 80 years, one of the pioneer settlers of Anderson county, died at 7 o'clock last night at his home, 621 East Seventh avenue, of old age. He had been in poor health for several months.

The funeral will be held from the home tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Orley L. Miller officiating. Burial will be made here. Mr.

Walker located at Greeley in an early day. He left his wife here about forty years ago because she presisted in dressing in bloomers, it is said, and parading the streets at the head of a woman's equal suffrage organization. He went from here to Long Beach, where he entered the practice of law, and it is said remarried. He patched up the differences with his wife one years ago last summer, and returned to live with her until he died. It it said he was married in California, and that after he returned to his Garnett wife he was remarried to her, but this cannot be confirmed.

The deceased is a brother of Dr. Delos Walker, who, it is believed, committed suicide at Oklahoma City over a year ago following an attempt to blackmail him, after an investigation concerning the death of a girl. The investigation of his death was stopped before any verdict had been reached. The Dr. Walker founded South Oklahoma City and was prominent in the city's public affairs.

James Fisher Walker leaves besides a wife, two daughters, Mrs. Ada Dunlap-Bowman, Mrs. Hesp of Nebraska, two sons, one in Washington and the other in Kansas City, and a brother in Oklahoma City, who is connected with the telephone system there. They are all expected here for the funeral. School Children Gave A Splendid Entortainment The entertainment given last evening at the Congregational church by the pupils of Misses Marguerite Johnson, Zoe patrick and Edith Yarnall, was well attended and greatly apprereciated by the patrons of the schools.

The program was composed of of choruses, recitations, dialogues and some vocal solos and piano solos and duets. It is surprising to know how well these little folks can play, sing and recite. It shows how much work, on the part of the teachers, and scholars also, is being done outside the regular school work Miss Vera Johnson accompanied and Miss Westmacott led the children in the choruses. Each number on the program was well rendered and received well by the audience. It pleases the children to know what they do is appreciated and it encourages them to become more interested and to do still better work.

At the close of the program Supt. C. H. Oman asked that the patrons visit the schools more often and become closer in touch. with the daily school work of the pupils.

The Odd Fellows lodge held an election of officers for the ensuing year last night. Ed Vansickle was elected president and Frank McCallion vice-president. The secretary and treasurer hold over. Harry Dixon of Kansas City went to Blue Mound today.
