Bloomington Mayor Hits Salary Plan INDIANAPOLIS (UP) — Mayor Tom Lemon of Bloomington said today nobody wants to run for mayor in his city because of a "ridiculous" salary situation. A state law sets salary limits on mayors of cities of various classifications. The top salary for a mayor as prescribed by law is $12,000, and that is only for Indianapolis, the state's only first class city. Reddington urged legislation to permit cities to set their own salary schedules for mayors. Mayor Charles H. Vaughn of Madison said his salary is $4,400 a year, including $1,200 for running a utility. Vaughn recommended $8,000 for cities of that size. The municipal spokesmen were called to present their views to the commission by the Indiana Municipal League.
