The sisters were frightened" and the sister superior frequently looked out the window to see if he had gone. Had there been aLstance at hand they would gladly have summoned it, but none arrived until daylight, and the mysterious man proved to be Mr. Angwick. Bis vest was caught in a picket in the fence, which supported the body in an upright position. Mr.

Angwick spent the evening at Geo. B. McCall's cigar store in conversation with Mr.McCail and others regarding the western country to whi he had stated that he intended to visit. When he left he said: "Well, George I will see you again aliout the country out there." The supposition is that he was" taken 'ill immediately after leaving the store and having no home, started for the hospital. A post mortim examination was conducted by Drs.

Nussel and Myre and it was decided that the cause of death was enlargement of the heart. After being put through the "third degree," Smith confessed the crime. He is now loeked up in the county jail at Eau Claire. From the slenderest of clewsj the chief, with the hearty co-operatHM of the sheriffs office, worked up the case until he had the perpetrator of the crime behind prison bars and a confession of guilt wrung from him.
