Chicago, March characterized operations on the board of" trade today and speculative interest hit a dead center. The price limits for the day were narrow and trade was at a i i with commission houses doing little and the protessional clement keeping extremely close to shore.

Wheat finished Kc higher, corn was up Vic, and oats were lie to higher. The bulk of the business in wheat was around for the May delivery with no attention being paid to the supply and demand situation. Corn showed relative firmness as compared with wheat but May was for sale at Sic and over, which checked the advancing tendency. The aggregate trade was not Ir.rge. Little attention was paid to the oats ar.d rye pits today and they were affected largely by activity in the other grains.

New York, March -There was scattered improvement in values in the bond market today, but the general corporate list again was marked by irregularity. The quick ar.d favorable disposal of the treasury's March 13 financing operation was viewed as a factor in a further gain in U. S. Governments during the early trading. Treasury loans added from l-32d to 10-32s of a point.

Low priced issues showed much the same unevcnnoas of movement as in recent sessions, hut the group as a whole was less responsive to weakness in individual loans like Allegheny Corporation 5s of 1950, and a few others. Advances running from fractions to around a point occurred in Youngstown Sheet Tube 5, Postal Telegraph 5s, New York Central 5s, Pennsylvania General 4 1 Baltimore Ohio 4 Ca- na'dian Pacific debentures, Erie 5s and Goodyear 5s. (By United Press) Stocks irregularly lower in dull trading. Bonds, steady; U. S.

Advances by a collection of specialties provided most of the interest, but changes for the general run active issues were narrow and mixed. Metal issues firn-cd, the biggest turnover occurring in Wright Hargrcavos which crossed 0 for a fractional gain. Some of the active utilities tended downward, fractional losses appearing In Electric Bond Share and American Gas.

"A mnii can't keep fat i healthy in soli- laiy i In the years I've been in jail I've been in solitary for ''our years, and i Includes one stretch nf '21 months in Treated Mi- Swoll." Chief Jackson questioned tho young outlaw about any intentions he had liad to rob the Ko- Uomo Hunk. Early in October tho wird was slipped 10 authorities here a fang was scheduled to rob the Onion a ar.il to visit, the bank at i a Indianapolis papers sent and reporters here on thai day. but i happened.

''Did you cvor huve any idea of 'cracking' the Kokor.io bank?" asked the chief. "Hell, no! We didn't have, any intentions of up your only bank. How could I took a chance once in Kokomo nnd lost. But: I got fine treatment by ttir officials during my trial." At this point a peculiar i showed in his eyes nnd he added: "And I've been told that everyone connected with that trlul, including all or the jury, sig-ned the petition for my parole. No, I don't hold no ill feeling against anybody in Howard county.

Knew About Xip. "I knew you had" a tip we were going to crack your bank. And had it before you did. I knew the Indianapolis Times had photogvaph- crs and reporters in town to water: us do our stuff. 1 don't mind telling you that I came through Kolto- mo that day.

I had occasion to go through and didn't see any particular reason for going around. But wo i have any designs on your bank." "You would nave saved us a lot. of worry if you had written a letter and told us so," interposed Jackson. The bandit laughed. "Well, if I answered the letters of.

everybody who suspicions me I'd need at least ten stenographers." Denies Plot. Pierpont denied having plotted to attract Kokomo police from the 'city through a robbery committed upon an Indianapolis traveling man I late In October, a few milts of Kokomo. When news of the robbery was brought to the police headquarters here the victim identified his assailant as Joe Burns, one of Pieraont's gang, from pictures shown -him. The police figured that the robbery hod been staged to get the police out of the city and ir.stitutced a strict vigil at the bank. "Absolutely not," exclaimed Picr- ponl.

''I haven't scon Burns since five minutes before we reached the main gate in our Michigan City break. I don't know where he is." Vindictive, Toward rcarl. "I understand you boys Kokomo think a Pearl Elliott had been helping us. I want to clear I that up right now. 1 only found a big woman who weighed about three hundred, but I never said tt. word to her." "Where did you park your car?" I the chief asked. "In front of a i i stand across the street." "Were you alone?" "I told you I went up he answered, intimating that may have remained in the car. Chief Jnchson, with other officers and a Tribune reporter, called Friday morning the place formerly operated by Pearl Elliott. A heuvy- sct woman answering Pierpont description was there, but staunchly denied that Pierpont had been at the place or that the door had been kicked out since early summer.

"Mighty Nice oC Them." As the half-hour drew to a close Jackson asked the bandit what he thought about the situation at Crown Point. Pierpont smiled, "It was mighty nice of them," he said. leading some doubt in mind as to whether he referred to the escaped bandits or the accommodating officials. So Princess toussoupoff was awarded $125,000 in her libel suit against the movie "Rasputin and The Well, that IS interesting. But JGthel Barrymore, who played the role of the Empress, couldn't express an opinion.
