A perfectly corking performance is turned in by Louise Beavers, the lovable maid of the piece. Claudette Colbert, as a young widow -and later a woman with a quite grown daughter, is, of course, up to her usual standard. Warren William is adequate as the heart interest. And, it goes without saying, Ked Sparks is funny.

Charles Carlile, radio star, heads the Roxy's stage show this week. Others on the program are the Three Swifts, Dorothy Crocker, the Dancing Doxen, the Gae Foster Girls and the Roxy Rhythm Orchestra. literary excellence. For those unacquainted with the book, "Imitation of Life" is the story of a widow, Bea Pullman (Claudette Colbert), who capitalizes the cooking art of her colored maid Delilah (Louise Beavers) and rides to financial success. Readers of Miss Hurst's book will remember that various subjects are all tied up coherently and impressively. Of the screen story, however, the same cannot readily be said.
