Theodore Alfred Bingham, U.S.A., retired, former Police Commissioner of New York City, died at his Summer home here today-after a long illness. He was "6. Gen. Bingham was appointed New York City Police Commissioner in 1906 and continued the cleanup campaign instituted by his predecessor and close personal friend, the late President Theodore Roosevelt. Bingham served until July 1, 190y. Later he was chief engineer of highways in New York and consulting engineer with the New Y'ork Department of Bridges. He rose from the rank of second lieutenant in the U. S. Army to the post of brigadier general in twenty-five years.
