From the Tribune Area Peru North Appointed New Recorder For Miami County Chaplin Ordered Ousted from Post Peru, 'Sept. 22-(Tribune Special)-C. A. North, 279 West Main street, a Republican, today was appointed Miami county recorder to succeed Robert L. Chaplin, Democrat, been wentenced to prisop.

The term which North will fill out will expire on Dec. 81, 1942. North, who is a school bus body salesman, has been active in Re publican politics and at one time! was candidate for county clerk. has been engaged In selling automobiles and motor equipment for number of years. His appointment, made by the county, commissioners, is reported! to have been the result of a compromise between Arvil Eikenberry, Democrat member of the board, and Clarence Graham, Republican.

Dr. P. Hodson, the other Democrat commissioner, who la reported left the county several months ago but whose office never been officially declared vacant, did not attend today's special meetIng. Powell Other Candidate Election of North on the third secret ballot. The other candldate was Gerald Powell, young Jackson towaship farmer, who is reported to have been the choice of the Republican county central committec.

It was apparent that Elkenborry voted. for North throughout, and that Graham cast two ballots for Powell and then swung over to North on the third, Accompanied by Elbert Robbins, Republican county chairman, and Attorney O. F. Chaplin Under Sentence Chaplin, who hag been sentenced to serve from one to ten VORTE in state prison for assault and battery with Intent to commit a felony in connection with alleged unnatural relations, was ordered out of the office by County Attorney A W.

Matt. on instructions of the commissioners. Ho had been working without pay since appealing to the supreme court last March, the commissioners having rojected all his claims for salary. Sentencing of Chaplin last Feb. 26 by Circuit Judge.

Hal C. Phelps was based upon his plea of guilty, and he. actually spent nbout ten days in prison. After the sentenco he filed. a motion for permission to withdraw the guilty which was denied by Judge Phelps.

The appeal to the supreme court WAS based on this action. Last week the court of appeals upheld Judge Phelps. No new commitment for Chaplin's return to the penitentiary had been issued today, Judge Phelps was not in the court room this afterDoon. Chaplin, who is at liborty under: $2,500 bond, has until Oct. 8 to file a petition with the supremo court.

James T. C. Stedman Dies Mrs. James T. C.

Surviving also is a brother, Ebenezer Humrickhouse, of Miami. Born in Miami, March' 29, 1869, the deceased had -resided in that' community all her life. She and the surviving husband were married Nov. 28, 1889. The deceased was a member of Miami Methodist! church, Funeral services will be held at the residence Thursday at 2 p.
