J. M'DON ALD POST UP, Old JgeAssistance Head to Return lo Detroit, Plans to VisiTin" SaultSte, Marie WitHelatives, John R. McDonald, who has been district supervisor of the fifteen Upper Peninsula counties for the Old Age Assistance bureau since March, 1936, has sent in his resignation to the State Welfare Department to take effect on February 15. Mr. McDonald plans a two weeks vacation during which he will visit with relatives at Sault Ste.

Marie before returning to his work with'the City of Detroit on March 1. Mr. McDonald, who is under Detroit civil service, was employed in that city's bureau of publicity for the street railways until December If 1935, when he was "loaned" to the Old Age Assistance bureau of the state for a ninety day period. Since that time his leave from Detroit city work has been continued in ninety day periods, the latest period expiring on March 1, 1937. When McDonald started with the Old Age Assistance bureau in 1935 he was field supervisor over the state's S3 counties.

In March. 1935, he was placed in charge of the 15 -'Jpper Peninsula counties as dis- ict supervisor. In tendering his resignation, he stated that he did not care to relinquish his civil service rights with the city of Detroit. In a letter from G. Bryant, newly appointed director of the State Welfare Department.

Mr. McDonald -was informed that provisions would made to relieve him of his duties as requested in a letter on January 18 to the welfare Mr. Bryant has also requested Mr. McDonald to come to the office in Lans'ng for a conference on the conduct of the peninsula affairs of the bureau after he leaves here on the 15th.
