1931 NEW VELRUSS PLANT TO OPEN THIS EVENING This evening, Monday June 1, the new plant of the Velruss Ice Cream Company at Cameron and Reily streets will be formally opened under the management of William M. Russ, who has completed arrangements for an "open house," to which everyone has been invited. All who visit the plant on this first day will be given samples of the new product which is said to be superior to any of its kind previously manufactured. The new plant is two stories high and is constructed of brick, steel, concrete and cement blocks. It contains modern storage rooms, lined with cork nearly a yard in thickness and all refrigeration is placed overhead.

The freezing and making rooms which are the last word in cleanliness and sanitation are removed from other sections of the plant by glass partitions, through which visitors to the plant may oo serve the care and precision with which Veiruss Ice Cream is manufactured. In the rear of the building is a spacious garage for the trucks which will convey the product to dealers in Harrisburg and vicinity. Ice cream will be kepi cold by the use of both dry and manufactured ice. The plant was built by John E. Meyers under the personal supervision of William Russ.

Mr. Russ has long been considered an expert in the manufacturing, flavoring and marketing of ice cream products and during the years that he managed the old Russ Brothers's plant he was consi ered a leader in his profession. He has always held to the opinion that people will buy a product that is made of the best materials and is handled in the cleanest manner. This is the policy, he says, which he intends to maintain at the new plant, in order to guarantee users of the new Velruss ice cream a taste that is rare, combined with a texture and finish that is not obtainable in other brands. The dsign of the new factory Is compact, having been completed with the idea of saving steps and performing manufacturing processes in orderly sequence so that more efficient results can be obtained.

The pasteurizers, sterilizers and other machinery are located on the second floor, together with the storage room. The first, or main floor will be used for manufacturing processes, while tubs and other storage will be located in the sealed basement. A number of local firms had a share in the construction and furnishing of this building. This new industry is home owned and home operated and is not in any way connected with any corporation or chain of ice cream plants anywhere. The personnel consists of: William M.

Russ, Frank S. Morrow, Claire Swauger, John Russ and William Russ, Jr. Mr. Morrow, who was associated with the former Russ Brother's organization, will again assume charge of the sales and distribution of this new Harrisburg product. Production will be in charge of Mr.
