Brisk spring weather is a good time to fly a kit, but an electric utility spokesman warns kite fliers to be careful. Stan Sendecke, Freeport district manager A of Commonwealth Edison, reminds persons to observe certain precautions.

Selecf kite flying areas as far as possible from power lines, television aerials, airports, trees and street and highway traffic, he said. Never use wire or metal in a kite. Make sure it contains only dry string, wood and paper. Metallic fibers, tinsel or wire conduct electricity, providing a path for an electric current to follow down to the person flying the kite. Sendecke said there was an incident (his spring where a McConnell area kite flier was burned when using a copper wire for a string.

The wire brushed a utility line. Don't fly kites its raining wet strings can conduct electricty too: Don't climb trees, poles, wires or other structures to retrieve snagged kites. It's better to abandon the kites, Sendecke suggests. YOU CONTROL THE QUALITY OF OUR SCHOOLS AND COLLEGE WHEN YOU VOTE- VOTE TODAY POLLS OPEN: NOON TO 7:00 P.M. Pol.
