Steffen Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. Robert Richards, Caledonia chief of police, and a Houston County deputy said Felton and his bride of five months had been to a Caledonia tavern Saturday evening and had returned to their home with some friends. While in the Mrs. Felten living room, Felten reportedly was showing an antique pistol he had recently purchased. He had emptied the gun of bullets, he thought, but apparently one bullet remained in the cylinder.

While demonstrating how to use the pistol, Felten was about five or six feet from his wife. The gun discharged and Mrs. Felten was struck in the region of the eye. Both the Feltens were sitting down at the time of the accident. Mrs.

Felten died about four hours later in a La Crosse hospital. Dr. Philip Utz, Houston County coroner, ruled the ing was accidental. Testimony in Houston County case under way CALEDONIA, Minn. A sixmember Houston County Court jury this afternoon began hearing testimony in a criminal matter involving Gary Pellowski, 24, Brownsville, who has charged with failing to notify, an officer of an accident which resulted in injury or death.

Judge Duane E. Woodworth is presiding. The charge stems from the Sept. 1 death of Pellowski's 19- year-old brother, Steven, on Highway 26 in the Twin Coves area about four miles south of Brownsville. THIS MORNING, during Rasmussen hearing, a motion by defense counsel, Robert Lee, Caledonia, to quash an oral confession obtained from the defendant, was denied by the court.

Delbert Rowse, assistant county attorney, on Jan. 26 had filed a notice of intent with the court to introduce the confession. The only witness during the Rasmussen hearing was Robert Rysavy, of the Minnesota Crime Bureau, who had taken the confession from the defendant. Rysavy testified that Pellowski had been advised of his rights and that he had ingly given the confession. Contents of the confession were not disclosed in court.

Pellowski had reported his brother's death about 5:30 a.m Sept 1 at a home near the scene. Authorities found his brother's body in the southbound lane of the highway, the apparent victim of a hit-and-run driver. THE DEFENDANT was questioned after the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension indicated paint scrapings taken from the victim's body were from a light blue or black car. Investigating county officers found Pellowski's car had been light blue and was repainted black. Jurors Leota Bauer, Black Hammer Township; Ruby Middendorf, Caledonia; Virginia Blexrud, Spring Grove Township; Bernadette Carpenter, Houston; Lillian Ingvalson, Spring Grove, and Gayle Schmitz, Caledonia.

Public hearing tonight on CD block grant plan At 7:30 tonight, the Winona City Council will reconvene at Winona Senior High School for a public hearing on the Community Development block grant program. It's expected that the council will come up with some tentative determinations to help the CD consultant prepare Winona's application for federal funds, according to City Manager David Sollenberger. Under the program, Winona could get more than $1 million in federal help over the next few years, if the complex application is approved by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Community Development block grants will replace urban renewal and a number of other federal categorical grant programs. WEDNESDAY, FEB.
