A 8,423, Mark Littell, Billings Mustangs (righthander,) jumped to the lead in Pioneer League pitching statistics after the first week of the 1971 season. The league's first report shows Littell with an 0.00 ERA and'a 1-0 record after two starts and 15 innings pitched.

Righty Kent Agler, one of four throwers with a 2-0 record, leads in strikeouts with 14 while Scott McManis, a second-year tang, leads the team and league in walks with 11. Littell with 15 and Agler with 14 were the only Billings pitchers with more than 10 innings pitched through July 4. They and McManis were the only Mustangs with two starts as Manager Gary Blaylock spread -his starting assignments among five men. Catcher Jose Salas earned fourth position in the batting race with a .357 average and George Brett and Steve Freeborn cracked the .300 plateau with .333 averages. Outfielder Myron Pines led the league in runs scored with 15 despite batting only .219.

Pines walked 12 times, four less than second sacker Steve Staggs' league-leading 16.
