House Swings At Athletics CHAPEL HILL (UP) The chancellor of the University of North Carolina took a swing at athletics today, saying that gate receipts have become more important than the students playing the games. Chancellor Robert B. House said he-is not attacking athletics in themselves, but declared that the limp and energy of students are often exploited. The chief disease of big time athletics is its dependence on big money, House said, and "the more you try to reform athletics the worse it seems to get." House said the proposal by some university officials that higher grade averages he required for athletes (the present requirement, being on half of the courses taken) is not justified.

"If a person is qualified to be a student at the university he is qualified to participate in an extra curricular activity, provided he is making normal progress toward a degree," IIP said.
