John Turabian, who will be remembered hero as the former Miss Peggy Gordon, was highly honored recently when her creation, "Smoke and Flame" was awarded first prize in the costume designing competition for thc Beaux Arts Ball which was an event at the Hotel Astor, New York City, on November 14. Mrs. Turabian is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.

Vincent Gordon of Toronto and a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Blair of this city. She attended (he Sault high school.

Her creation, "Smoke and Flame," has a blouse of sheer gray-blue, the head-dress, gloves and one layer of flames tipped with gold metallic cloth. The next layer flames and hands of the gloves are flame velvet, the lower hoots of crimson velvet and the belt of gilt. Peggy's creation will appear in the Fete de Rayon- Fantastique and is one of the designs submitted by pupils of the Traphagen School of Fashion, New York. Peggy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

M. M. Payne, 203 Brady, are freshmen in the College of Commerce and Finance. Miss Charlotte Wheatley is arriving today from Michigan State college to be with her and Mrs. A.

N. Bell, 409 Cedar street, has arrived from Ypsilanti to be with her parents for the Christmas vacation. Miss Ellen Paananen, who has been a nurse at the War Memorial hospital here, is visiting: her parents at Marquette. She has accepted a position at Harper hospital, Detroit, and will report for duty there on January 4. The Methodist Foreign Missionary Society met "Thursday afternoon with Mrs.

The- church has-been decorated for the occasion.by the senior B. Y. P. U. society in charge of Robert Hyslop, Jr.

Tuesday will be the Sunday school Christmas festival. The program is in charge of Mrs. Barnes and will consist of recitations, solos, drills, exercises, dialogues etc. by tho children. During the evening Santa Glaus is expected to arrive with his usual good cheer.

Santa Present at Christmas Program of Legion Auxiliary Members of the American Legion and Auxiliary and their children gathered in the Legion Hall last night for the annual Christmas party. The program included songs by the Carolers, 27 members of; the Junior Auxiliary; a violin solo by Sam Stcphenson accompanied by his mother, Mrs. Helen Stephenson; a song by Jimmy Henderson, accompanied by mother, Mrs. James Henderson; a recitation by Donald Gerrie; a duet by Patricia and Isabel Sparling; a cornet solo by Benedict Behling; a one-act play, "Christmas Eve" with Verna Hillock, Marjorie Lapish, Philip Lapish and Paul Levin as members of the cast; Come, All Ye Faithful," by the Drum and Bugle Corps; and a recitation, "Jingle Bells," by Bobbie Gerrie.
