He Did Everything. Every trick known to an expert traveler like Mr. Brewer was tried. None worked. Finally two cowboys, who afterward were identified as the Locke brothers came along.

They saw the predicament the Ukiahans were in and they performed what Mr. Brewer says was a miracle. Were Lifted Out. It was useless to try and pull the car out of the mud, so the cowboys got their ropes around the axle of the machine, then they twined their ropes around the horn of their saddles. They backed their ponies up close to each side of the car, kept on tightening the ropes and, when all was ready, the two ponies stepped forward slowly and, when they did, the car was lifted straight up a little gotten back on the pavement.

Mr. and Mrs. Brewer took no short cut home. Ed. P.

SCHOOLROOM RAILROAD IS IN A CAR Mendocino Goes Pioneers One Better In Uniqueness The little old red school house about which the lore of other days is surrounded, has nothing on the little school house located at Bell Springs in this county, of wliich in a late issue The Willits News has this to say: Dan Hickey came in from Bell Springs station the first of the week and told about the funny little schoolhouse they have at that place. Most of the children living in that vicinity belong to members of the section crew of the Northwestern Pacific railroad which was asked to donate the use of a boxcar for a scholhouse. The boxcar was placed on a sidetrack and when the alterations were made it looked like a palace. Windows were put in so that it is well lighted and they have a stove and the regulation desks and blackboards. The Only One.
