Short, 2-2, blanked the Cubs onf four hits and worked his way out of tough spots in the fifth and sixth innings. With one out in the seventh, Bowa beat out an infield single and then stole second. Short walked and both runners advanced as Denny Doyle grounded to first.

Money then beat out a hit to deep short as Bowa scored. The Yanks picked up two more off John Gelnar in the eighth on Kline's one-out single, a walk to Clarke, Munson's double and another sacrifice fly by White.

Havre's Molen goes to Provo HAVRE (AP)-Tom Molen, head football and wrestling coach at Havre High School for four years resigned Friday to take a similar position in Provo, Utah. In football, the Great Falls native led his teams to one state championship and a second place finish. His over-all record was 23-10-1. In wrestling, Molen's teams won two state Class A titles and two divisional titles during his four-year tenure. Pittsburgh tied the game in the sixth when Hebner doubled and Roberto Clemente, Stargell, Bob Robertson and Manny San-guillen singled.

The hits by Clemente and SanguiDen drove in the runs. Atlanta erupts to dump Dodgers ATLANTA (AP) Sonny Jackson singledhand doubled in Atlanta's six-run outburst the fifth inning Friday night as the Braves ended a three-game losing streak with a 7-2 triumph over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Braves paraded 11 batters to the plate in the big inning, collecting four singles, two doubles, a walk and a sacrifice fly. Atlanta loaded the bases on consecutive singles by Jackson, Ralph Garr and Hank Aaron before Orlando Cepeda lofted a sacrifice fly. Felix Millan followed with an RBI single and Bob Didier with a run-scoring double.

Then Steve Garvey booted Phil Niek-ro's bouncer for two runs and Jackson delivered an RBI double. The Dodgers tallied twice in the seventh off Niekro, 2-2, on singles by Tom Haller Gavey, Willie Crawford arid Manny Mota. Pirates top Padres on Hebner's 3 hits PITTSBURGH (AP) Richie Hebner's third hit, a seventh inning single, drove in the tie-breaking run and Pittsburgh went on to a 5-3 victory over the San Diego Padres Friday night. It was the fifth straight loss and 13th in 15 games for the Padres. The Padres took a 3-0 lead in the fourth when Ollie Brown' smacked -his second homer of the season, a three-run shot off Bob Johnson. The Pirates got a run in their fourth on singles by Cash and Hebner, and an infield out by Willie Stargell.

Red Sox edge Twins with 3-run rally BOSTON (AP) Reggie Smith's long double chased home two runs as Boston rallied for three in the bottom of the eighth, inning to beat Minnesota 4-3 Friday night. Jim Kaat was working on a four-hitter and leading 3-1 as the Red Sox came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Doug Griffin opened up with a pop fly single and pinch hitter Don Pavletich's bounced another single. Louis Aparacio sacrificed and Kaat threw wild trying to catch Griffin at third. Griffin scored on the play at the Sox had men on second and third.

Chisox smash Nats behind rookie hurler WASHNGTON (AP) Bart Johnson pitched a five-hitter and Carlos May knocked in two runs and stole home as the Chicago White Sox defeated the Washington Senators 8-1 Friday night. The Senators scored first on loser Jerry Janeski's single, the first hit in 42 times at bat by Senators' pitchers, and Del Un-ser's double in the third inning. The 100-meter hurdles qualifying was led by Patty Johnson of the Angels Track Club in 14 seconds with Lacy O'Neal of Sports International and Patrice Donnelly of the San Diego Metros clocked in 14.2. Esther Stroy of Sports International ran 24.2 and national AAU 440 champion Mavis Laing of the Phoenix Track Club was timed in 24.3 in leading the qualifiers in the 200-meter dash. The 400-meter dash qualifiers were lead by Gwen Norman of Sports International in 53.2 and Drbra Edwards of the Worthing Track Club in 54.2.

Jarvis Scott of the Los Angeles Track Club took her heat in 54.7. Terry Crawford of the Knox-ville Track Club ran the fastest 800-meter heat in 2:09.4. Liquori was clocked in 13:52.4, clipping almost half a minute off the meet record set last year by Donal Walsh of Villanova, as he finished three seconds ahead of Barry Brown of the New York A. C. in the only men's event.

Until Liquori got into the act, the show had belonged to veteran Willye White of Chicago's Mayor Daley Youth Foundation and pair of national AAU women's champions in the Pan Am trials. The first two finishers in five women's field events earned berths on the team to compete July 30-Aug. 13 at Cali, Colombia. Miss White leaped 19 feet, 1U6 inches in the long jump, while AAU shot put champion Lynn Graham of the Fresno Track Club won her event in 52-4 and AAU javelin titleholder' Sherry Calvert of Redondo Beach, was second at 174-2V2. Miss Calvert was beaten by Roberta Brown of San Diego, who had a throw of 177-3.

Bren-da Simpson of San Diego won the high jump at 5-7 and Carol Frost of the Nebraska Track Dawson stars Arizona-bound GLENDIVE (AP)-Two of the top players on the championship Dawson College Buccaneers basketball team have signed grants-in-aid with Grand Canyon College of Phoenix, Ariz. Dennis Perryman, head coach of the Glendive junior college -team, said Jim Gray and Dexter King will enroll in the Arizona school this fall. The 64 Gray, a native of Brookfield, Ohio was an All-Conference selection at forward last year and scored over 1,000 points in his two years. He averaged 18.4 points per game and 12.5 rebounds per game. King, from Talmadge, Ohio but 6-3, was rated the top defensive player on the Buccaneers both years he played.
