He was 62 and had been in ill for some time. Far from being retired from the stage, however, he had engaged for a role in Eugene O'Neill's forthcom ing The late Lester Lonergan flay, "Mourning Becomes Electra." le was to have appeared in "Homecoming," the first of the three related dramas.

Funeral in Lynn. Lonergan's New York friends yesterday awaited definite word concerning funeral arrangements. It was understood that services Tvill be held in Lynn. Lonergan's home was in Westerly, R. and le was visiting friends in Lynn when he died.

With him was his wife, once known on the stage as Amy Ricard. Lonergan's last appearance on Broadway was in the role of the doctor in "Brass Ankle." He had directed the drama. Came From Ireland. Coming to the United States from Ireland more than forty years ago, Lonergai. made his stage debut in San Francisco." His first starring vehicle was "If I Were King." Lonergan was co-author of House Unguarded." He directed both the stage and film plays, "Abraham Lincoln."
