Thursday Evening, June 27, 1957. Governors Group To Discuss State Powers With Ike WILLIAMSBURG, Va. Gov. William G. Stratton of Illinois invited fellow-governors today to nominate members of a committee to confer with the Eisenhower administration on ways to increase the powers of the states.

Stratton, a Republican and newly elected chairman of the National Governors' Conference, was authorized by the conference Wednesday to name the committee to follow up a proposal by President Eisenhower in a speech here Monday. The 1957 meeting of! the conference adjourned Wednesday. The Eisenhower plan was expected to figure in discussions at a White House lunch in Washington today to which the 19 Republican governors at Uie conference invited. Eisenhower proposed that the governors and his administration set up a joint task force to study how to return some federal functions and tax sources to the states. GIRARD RALLY HITS U.
