Next to St. Regis Hotel MINING NEWS ARE SHOWING any New Strikes Reported In Taviche and Are Said To Be Shipments Of Ore From All Over the Distinct Oeotlan, Mexico, March near lest mines to Oeotlan are at Tavidhe. 'Entering the low, hilly country the first of importance is the Conejo Ooio- which possesses a well developed of silver-gold ore outcropping on the hillside. A ten stamp mill is running on the property, the concentrates being shipped to the smelters. Two or three miles further on there is a little group of mines, of which the South Carolina shows good prospects.

Another promising property is the San Carlos mine, owned by the Oxaca Consolidated Mining company, of Marion Illinois. The output is silver-gold ore in hard quartz, I the vein being a true fissure about five feet wide. The ore has been sold to ers at Oeotlan. who ship to the smelters, la Providencia is another promising mine, owned by parties in San Francis- co, which has been developed considerably, the values being in black sulphides of silver: work, however, is being carried on there at present. Adjacent thereto are the Rosita and the El Rosario mines, and other new properties on which work is progressing.

Further along the valley is the large plant of the old Teresa company, which has been idle for some time. West of this the Escuadra may be seen beyond a deep baranca. Also situated here are some of the most promising mines of the Taviche camp, among them being the Zapote mine, owned by the Vickery- Thompson Mining company, who are installing machinery and pusQiing forward development work rapidly; samples of ore have been taken therefrom running as high as thousands of dollars (Mex.) a ton. The property consists of 11 contiguous claims. The above company owns 1800 claims, on which they pay taxes of $18,000 per annum.

The company among its many properties, has valuable copper mines at San Bad tzar, beyond Mitla, the ore carrying from five per cent copper on the surface, and from 40 to 50 per cent at a depth, of 50 feet. Some of their properties, which it is their intention to develop, have ores averaging from $50 to $100 silver per ton within a few feet of the surface of the ground. Several companies have ben floated by Messrs. Vickery and Thompson, and. with one exception, all are close corporations.

On the other side of the Escuadra mountain is the property of the Taviche Mining and Filling New York company, which has a capital stock of $500,000 gold, and possesses probably the finest customs mill in aca, having a capacity of 40 tons a day, which, with slight expenditure, may be increased to 80. The Poder de Dios group of mines, 20 claims, within a. half mile of the mill, is also owned by the company, which has in addition an option and lease on Renacimiento mine known as the Conejo Blanco. Many new strikes 'have been lately reported in Taviche, and while details from some are unobtainable, still they are known to be rich. The railroad running into the camp from Oeotlan is about completed and should be in ope ration within 60 days.

A rich strike has been made in the Conejo Blanco, ore (Mex.) having been found. A new vein in the Consuelo mine was sihot into which looks good. The values have not as yet been ascertained. On the Ossian Xo 8, talcy seams have come into the shaft. The rock near the bottom of the shaft, which is down 300 fet, shows fine ruby silver and sulphides.

Another rich strike was made in the Artisan property, tlhe ore running nine kilos silver. Ore running 3 12 per cent copper been opened up in the chi mine. This property is one of the largest in Taviche and the latest to find copper. The company is making heavy shipments continually. Conditions are improving daily owning to the many mining men and capitalists coming into the district.

A 60 horse power has recently been added to the plant of the Providencia- San Carlos Alining company, Taviche district, and compressors are being installed. A new Cameron sinker has been placed on a lower level. Recent shipments from the mine are said to haA'e run eight kilos, 17 grams silver and nine grams gold. Crosscutting is In progress on the 100 foot, level. The San Carlos shaft is to be sunk an additional 200 feet.

Ore running nine kilos silver to the ton, company sampling, is being shipped from the Atristain mine. Taviche district. ZINC SHIPMENTS FROM BACA TO BEGIN SOON Word has reached El Paso that zinc shipments will soon be commenced from the station of Baca in Chihuahua. This will be the first, shipment of ore from the properties of the Almolova Mining company since the old contract expired in February. Some 1000 tons of ore has accumulated at the station, and this has been disposed of at a very favorable price.

After the station platforms are cleared the purchasers will be at liberty to take ore in lots of a certain number of cars at a time under the present conditions, or either the purchaser or mining company may ask for other terms, a feature of the new contract, which was very acceptable to both parties. LARGE OUTPUT OF THE COBALT PLANT Ottowa, March product of the mines of Cobalt during the year was as follows: Silver, ounces 5.357,830 $3,543,080 Cobalt, tons 312 30.819 Nickel, tons 156 Arsenic, tons 1,558..................... to the end of 1906 the Cobalt camp produced 8,016,051 ounces of silver, worth $5,015,479, and 46 tons of cobalt, 245 tons of nickel and 1919 tons of arsenic, valued at $150,779. $13,467 and $3,596 respectively. The last three constituents bring at present little or no return to the mine owners.

Danderine GROWS HAIR AND WE CAN OF SELLINE CSPPEH MES leverai Of the Larger Con tracts Will Expire At An Early Date and New Ones Will Be Made Houghton, March will be important changes this year in the selling of copper. The United Metals Selling company, at the present time, contracts the selling of about 700.000.000 pounds of copper per annum, but it will probably lose the selling of 85,000,000 pounds of copper this year through the acquisition of the Osceola company by the. Calumet Hecla and the expiration of the contract for selling of the Greene Consolidated company copper. May 1, which contract has been secured by the American Metal company. in August the contract for the refining and selling of the output of the old Dominion company also expires.

Lp to within a few months ago the selling of the Old Dominion copper has been divided between the American Metal company and Phelps-Dodge company, the former selling the production of the Old Dominion company of New Jersey, 27.000.000 in 19C6, and the Phelps-Dodge interests selling the product of the Tinted Globe company about 10,000.000 pounds in 1906. The American Metal company, however, now sells the product of both of these companies, which are controlled by the Old Dominion of Maine. There will be somewhat of a contest for the contract of the Old Dominion Copper company output when the present contract expires. Already four or five different interests have sought it and it will go to the highest bidder. The American Smelting Refining company now has a surplus of refining capacitv, having recently purchased tli3 Keyser plant in Baltimore, and it is making a strong bid for blister copper for refining.

The United Metals Selling compa riv sells all the American Smeltiug Refining company's output. The contract between the Greene Con boiidated company and the American Metal company for the disposition of Greene product, estimated at 60.000,000 this year, was made about a year ago, when colonel Greene came near losing control of the Greene company. At that time he was helped out by the American Metal people by the loan of several millions of in return for which they secured the contract the disposition of the Greene product when the contract with the United Metals Selling company expired. Both colonel Greene and the American Metal people have recently stated that this contract is absolutely good and the re cent change in the control of the Greene company to the Amalgamated interests cannot affect it. Under the new ownership, however, whereby the Greene Consolidated Copper company and the ananea Centrai Copper company are absorbed by the Greene-Cananea Copper company, the former company might have no copper to sell, and title to the new smelter, being built at Cananea by the Consolidated company, may so rest that the contract made bv colonel Greene Avith the American Metal company mav be of no value Tt does not seem likely that, with the same interests in control of the Greene company and the United Metals Selling company the valuable contract for the disposition of the Greene output wil be allowed to go to rival trade interest5 MEETING Bisbee, March of the routine and the election of the officers very little business was transacted at the regular meeting of the American-Saginaw Development company.

The session resulted in the re election of the old board, and also of the same officers. Little else was done at. the meeting. Those who were reelected directors were: Thomas F. Cole, C.

tremont, H. B. Hoveland, T. IT. Collins, W.

B. Merschon, Watts S. Humphrey and Benton Hanchette. A report on progress was made to the meeting, and after attending to various other details, the stockholders adjourned cine die. Immediately fol-.

lowing the adjournment of the session the board of directors met for the purpose of electing of ficers. T. H. Collins was elected dent; vice president; Frederick R. Kennedy, secretary, and W.

G. Hegardt, treasurer. The development, of the property will be continued along the same lines as in the past, and all of the directors are still as strong as ever in their belief that success will crown their efforts, Vice president, C. when in El Paso a few days ago stated to a Herald reporter that, he felt confi- dent that they would strike the same body of ore that the Denn people have opened up, but that they would most I likely encounter the ore at a lower depth. The Denn mine Is down now about 1200 feet, while the American shaft is down a thousand feet.

Aci cording to Mr. the Ameri lean shaft will fyave to be sunk 300 feet more before they reach the zone of the Denn ore body. Notice to Contestants. Thos. WESTERN FEDERATION OF MINERS ELECT OFFICERS Jerome, March an nual election of officers of the branch of the Western Federation of Miners resulted in the reelection of Albert Ryan as secretary treasurer of the union by a majority of only six votes over his opponent, Mr. Parschal. The election was intensely exciting.

While the election was a strictly union affair, there appeared of be as much interest taken in the result, by the citizens of Jerome as in a city or county election. The Ryan and Parschal forces hard, and almost every trick known in tne game politics was resorted to by the adherents of both parties. The ballots were cast in the union hall, and at the close of the count if was announced that Ryan had received 91 votes against 85 for Parschal. Quite a number of the members re frained from taking any part hi the proceedings, or even voting, on account of their friendship for both par ties to the contest. Albert Ryan the reelected officer is one of the leading men in the union.

M.

Schwab may not in the end be able to secure the Dolres mine which was purchased by his San Toy Mining from Augustin Escobar. The Dolores property is included largely in a denouncement made under the name of La Insurgente, against which denouncement there has been some opposition on legal technicalities. Jesus Aguirre M. Nevarez has ob tained a favorable ruling from the courts of First and Second Instance sustaining his claims as owner of the Dolores and objections to these rulings 8re now before the supreme court of the state, which will decide the matter at its next sitting It will be remembered that Mr. Schwab made a special to the Santa Eulalia district from New York city, the party passing through El did not make their 4000 trip for so.

December Sth. It is hoped fhey nothing, as the entranoe of Mr Schwab into the Santa Eulalia district means that its resources will be developed to their fullest extent. SPUR TO DENN MINE IS BEING CONSTRUCTED Bisbee, March El Paso Sc Southwestern railroad is rapidly constructing the sp-ur to the Denn mine. The spur will be about a mile in length and will connect with the new cut which runs through the townsite Warren. March A peculiar situation confronts the Navy department, in that they have on hand ready for distribution, a number of medals, issued according to the legislative resolution of March 3. 1903, and intended for the decoration of officers and men who took part in the campaign against the. Spanish in the waters of the West Indies, which they are unable to distribute owing to their inability to locate the men who are entitled to the honor. The navy department, is diligently hunting for every man who fought in the States navy, in the Spanish American war and it. is remarkable how few can be found.

Heroes who risked their lives in the service of their country have been advertised for but still the most of them have failed to respond and the department is perforce compelled to resort to advertising by posters such as is employed in advertising for re cruits and mailed circulars are being sent broacast by Lieutenant, commander Henry B. Wilson in hopes that it will facilitate the distribution. The officials of the navy department are anxious to locate all of the former officers of the navy as well as the enlisted men, both of the regular and the volunteer service who took part in any of the engagements in the West Indies, The list of those who are entitled to the medals was arranged by a board of awards and the secretary of the navy enlarged the list so as to include all officers and men who were NAME OF THE CITY TO BE MARKED OUT IN DEPOT PARK ork on the park at the union depot is progressing nicely and it is estimated that within a month the site should begin to assume the looks of a real park. The cement wall on the east side will be completed in a week, it is thought, and then the tilling will be started. The ground will be graded as the dirt is filled in, which will be settled by watering.

The park will be 100x120 on two and the other sides wrill be curved, the curb running parallel to the street car track. A fountain will be placed in the center of the park and walks will run through the place. It is said that the name of the city will be marked out in flowers in the park, a custom that often practised in depot parks. It is also said that benches will be placed the park, which may be used by passengers waiting for trains at night during the summer time. PRESIDENT NOT INTERFERING WITH STATES Washington.
