Morfa, Aug-. H. E. Middleton, wife and little daughter, Ruth, spent several days at the Sauz ranch this week, guests of Mr. and Mrs.

Barker. R. R. Ellison is in San Antonio on business. Mr.

and Mrs. R. K. Colquitt and son, Will, are in Austin on a visit to their cousin, goviernor Colquitt and family. Mrs.

Colquitt will also spend a while in Mineral Wells for the benefit of her health. Mrs. V. Hogan Is visiting her sister, (Mrs. R.

R. Ellison, on the Sunshine ranch. Mrs. Charles Bailey and daughter, Miss Pearl, are in El Paso to have Miss eyes treated. Dr.

George Cameron, of El Paso, Is here for a short time looking after his property interests. Miss Ethel Barnet is in town from the ranch visiting Miss Kitty Porter. Hugh Kilpatrick entertained a number of his little friends at a birthday party. The afternoon was enjoyed with various games and its pleasure was made complete with the serving of fruit punch, ice cream and cake. Miss Esther Vale Secrist assisted in entertaining the little folks.

Those present were: Elizabeth Fennell, Francis Mitchell, Cathrine, John, Polly and Whit Taft, Pauline and Minnie Quick, Clare McCracken, Elizabeth (Mildfed Childress, Emma Aiken, Helen and Ruth Robison, Marie Hopkina, Evelyn Reed, Willie Bailey, Horace Porter, Florence Middleton, Lilly and Elra Spencer, Margaret and Harry Hawthorne, Cathrine Shutz. Mrs. O. T. Reed and two little children, of Abilene, are here visiting her parents, Rev.

and Mrs. Baxton Golightly. The many friends of Miss Estelle Barclay are glad to learn that she is able to sit up after an eight week attack of typhoid fever. Miss Evelyn Ellison has returned home after a visit of several days to her cousin, Winnie Mae Hogan. Dr.

M. R. Matson was called to Valentine to attend Mrs. Dr. Graves, who has been quite ill.

Lieuts. Warden and Partrige gave a most enjoyable birthday dinner at their quarters Friday evening. The tables were decorated in gladioli and tube roses. Dinner was served in the open air, Japanese lanterns furnishing the light. Those present were: Judge and Mrs.

W. W. Bogel, Mrs. S. M.

Gains and Miss Sadie Gains, of Fort Worth; Genevieve Bogel. Sallie Barclay and Jessie Woodward, Dr. Barclay and Dr. Largent. Mr.

and Mrs. John Livingston will soon move into their beautiful bungalow just completed in the Mitchell addition. Mr. and Mrs. George Howard and children have returned after a visit of several months with relatives in Durby and San Antonio, Tex.

Mr. Patty, salesman for the Murphy- Walker company for St. Louis to purchase their fall stock of dry goods. He was accompanied by his sister, Miss Abby Dell Patty. Tom Hawthorne and family and H.

W. Shutze and family spent a day in the nearby mountains as a day ot feasting. Ice cold watermelons, Ice cream and cake and barbecued beef and other good things were plentiful. Mrs. Ben Pruitt and children, tof Fort Davis, are visiting her mother, Mrs.

R. H. Broson. Dan Knight and family have moved into their new home in West Heights. Miss Willie Ellison has moved her line of millinery into the new Raetzsche building.

Miss Salina Hoard, of Alimeto, is visiting her friend, Mrs. T. M. Wil- spn. Mrs.

D. A. T. Walton, of Sabinal, was the guest of her granddaughter, Mrs. Charles W.

Crosson for a few days this week. H. H. Kilpatrick spent a few days in Fort Davis this week attending court. Mrs.

Jones, a negro, who it ig alleged used Insulting language in addressing a young white woman over a telephone, was hanger by a mob last night. Jones was arrested yesterday. Last night a crowd of about 75 men and boys gained access to his cell and marched him to the outskirts of the town, compelled him tq climb a telephone pole. ANOTHER LORD GETS AN AMERICAN GIRL DYNAMITE CARTRIDGE MANGLES HAND Lad Tried to Set Fire to the Cartridge When Explosion Occurs. Tucumcari, N. Aug. Eslinger, nineyearold son of Richard A. Eslinger, living several miles out on the county near the town of Quay, had one finger and the thumb of the left hand blown from the body through trying to light a dynamite cartridge with a match.

The boy had discovered the cartridge in some belongings of his grandfather and thought it exploded. He Is recovering from the wounds. Nine editors from the Quay county newspapers have been elected members of the Tucumcari chamber of commerce with life membership. A banquet i8 being arranged to be tendered them on the 28th of September, the second day of the Quay county fair. It is being planned by the city to use a portion of the proposed Modern Woodmen building 45 by 50 feet in measurement for the purpose of a city building until the city can be supplied with a building all its own.

An effort is being made to purchase an automobile combination water and chemical fire engine and in such an event this would be held In the quarters. The balance of the first floor of the building would be employed as a swimming pool. TEXAS PACIFIC SHOPS TO RESUME Forces Laid Off Here and at Other Points to Return to Work Tuesday. Texas Pacific shops at El Paso, I Marshall and Big Springs will operations Tuesday morning, August 15. with full forces and will continue to run full time indefinitely.

The shops along the Texas Pacific were closed two weeks ago and only the necissary repair work was done. The reason given was the shortage of freight which occurs each year at the 'end i the summer season. At the El Paso shops and car ing yards 20 men were temporarily laid off, but will be taken hack Tuesday. At Big Springs the entire force of shop men will resume work on the 15th and at Marshall the shop force of 1000 will be returned to work. A temporary shortage of men is expected, as many of the machinists and skilled mechanics have left for other railroads, expecting the shutdown to be of longer duration.

G. C. Johnson gave a large number of his friends a treat, in the way of a barbecue. He and his friends drove out to a small trees a few miles from town and spent the day feasting. The Roosevelt County Normal is now in session, being attended by a large number of teachers from this and adjoining counties.
