It Ktarteii Friday afternoon with the cloning: Christmas programs In the public, private and parochial schools, preceding the two weeks holiday. Continuing until after Christmas day, the churches, Sunday schools, clubs and organizations have planned religious events to commemorate the holiest day In the church calendar. On Sunday there will be special Christmas services in all of the churches except the Episcopal and Roman Catholic churches. These will have their services on Christmas day. Song: services will be held Sunday evening: in many of the churches and appropriate sermons will be preached in all of the pulpits.

Monday and continuing: until after Thursday, there will be Christmas trees, cantatas and Santa Claus plays In the churches of the city. Sunday evening: the Lutheran church of St. Paul will have a sacred cantata which is in confirmation with the general plan of celebrating: the birthday of the church throughout the country. On Christmas day Christmas mass will be sung: In the Catholic and Episcopal churches. In the old mission of Our of Guadalupe holy play will be Riven Tuesday and the history of the birth of Christ will be reproduced during: the day.

Socially there will be many danccs, dinner parties and receptions dur- In the week of Christmas. The Scottish Rite will have Its annual open house during: Christmas day for all Masons and their friends. The Knights Templar will hold its annual Christmas religions service in the Masonic temple at oclock. The Y. M.

C. A. will have a violin recital Christmas eve at the association open to all men of the city. May Robson In Micht will be the Christmas matinee and attraction at the El theater on Christmas. At the fort the soldiers will be grlven a turkey dinner on Christmas and they will not have to do any more duty than is absolutely necessary.

The officers will have dinners for their families and friends in their quartt rs and calls will be exchanged-. A band concert will probably he given on the parade by one of the army bands Christmas afternoon. Charity associations and others will carry out a systematic plan for dispensing charity on Christmas to the poor of the city. The Woman's Charity has arranged for baskets for the worthy poor, the Salvation Army will have its annual basket distribution on Christmas and the Elks will distribute baskets to 200 poor, whose cases have been reported to the order and investigated. In addition, there will be many private charities active on that day and relief provided for the needy.

EL.KS TO SPREAD CHRISTMAS CHEJER. Christmas cheer is to he carried into the homes of the aa poor of El Paso by the local lodge of Elks. Already SO has been contributed for this purpose by members of the local lodge and it is expected that at least 9700 wiH be raised before Christmas. The old system of distributing baskets filled with chicken and other good things to eat has been abandoned. Instead there will be clothing for the poor children and substantial food for the whole family.

Shoes and stockings will be given to keep the feet warm and their mothers and fathers will not be forgotten. In the Christmas baskets there will be flour and bacon and other things that help as well as satisfy the hungry ones. Re-quests for assistance have been received from 125 persons. Some of these are whole families. All will be remembered as their needs are being investigated by members of the local lodge.

Special services in the churches and Christmas exercises and entertainments by the Sunday schools will be given as follows: First Methodist Sunday School. It is the bright and pretty muscial Sunday school cantata, Claus In this play Santa Claus is too old to make his journey to earth land, and his fairies suggest that Paris substitute as Santa Claus jr. His chorus of nieces support him in this and Paris goes to earth land. The characters arc, Harry Swain. Santa Claus; Carl Tipton, Paris and Santa Claus Florence Robertson, Tina; Lonnie Sarrels. Zero the Hunch Back, Catherine Griffith; Queen of the Fairies, Irene Gaylord, Luna.

The nieces have the principal musical part and are the following girls: Mildred Bishop, Ola Darr, Jennie Arthur, Vera Symes, Olive Page, Mildred Rogers, Florence Robertson, Edith Robertson, Mary Nafe, Annie Servis, Anna Mansell, Katherine Mansell, Clara Morris, Eva Rhoads, Bessie Burgess, Helen Hargrove, Margaret Hargrove. Evelyn Payne, Mary Evans, Floy Wilson, Mabel Reed, Ruby Protho, Miss Irene Gaylord, Margaret iifither- ford, Lois McChesney, Miss Anthony. The drill will be in costume. The Fairies have their singing party and their drill in costume is the most elaborate thing in tlie Cantata. The following girls take part: Louise Peach, Mary Sims, Mary Campbell, Harriet Durgen, Mabel Johnson, Nellie Campbell, Alberta Howard, Velia Crr.n- er, Blanche Long, Jennie Bell Hare, Mary Powers, Ruth Jackson, Viola Gaylord, Thelma Hatch, Catherine Griffith, Thelma Osborne, Alice Van Eaton, Helen Mathews, Lois Shaw, Pearl Rehrik, Catherine Powers, Fay Ross, Clara Preston, Madaline Durgen.

The brigade will give a drill and sing during their marching, Jolly who take part are as follows: Vaughn Peck, Clyde Williams, Thomas Jones, Wolford Davis, Joseph Osborne, Manchester Pogett, Logan Hunt, Paul Gooks, Harry Gooks, Herman Miller, Ea1 i Whitehead, Arnold Whitehead, Clifford Thayer, Charles Bush, George Howard, Russell Whittington, David Spencer. The doll drill is an especially beautiful and unique feature, and will be given by the following small children of the primary department of the Sunday school: Margaret Trowbridge, Ruth Flack, Lucy Hare, Velma Wood, Beatrice Gibson. Dorothy Anthony, Helen Valentine, Margarite Bishop, Cora Hare, Ann McKinney, Evelyn Turner, Jane Dimmitt. The chorus of children will be in street attire, while all the rest are in special costumes and have an Interesting part in the work, and those who take part are as follows: Caroline Sims, Lottie Lee Hicks, Marion Pierce. Walter Jones, Kenneth Valentine.

Sorrels. This makes in all 107 participants. The Sunday school orchestra will take part in the performance. There are seven of them: Jennie Arthur, Walton Sorrels, Poquita Clemons, Mr. Williams.

S. Howard. making elaborate decorations. Half a Christmas trees will be used, and other decorations in profusion. Miss Bess Page Hanks has had charge of the drilling of most of those who take part.

Santa Claus distribute some little gift to each of the boys and girls that evening. Everything pertaining to the singing and general arrangements of the cantata. has been under directions of Nafe. First Presbyterian Church. Special Christmas services will be held Sunday at the First Presbyterian church, Boulevard and Stanton, as follows: Morning worship at 10:55.
