Brownwood, left Sunday in charge of Sgt, Doyle Neff. Local citizens were caught rather unexpectedly when a telegram was received Saturday afternoon stating that the truck would arrive. Milton Morris, president of the Lions club; Clyde Warwick, president of the Chamber of Commerce; L. Ilix, commander of the American Legion; Mrs. T. Knighton, chairman of the County Co-ordinating Council; and 20 representative citizens attended the meeting.

Owing to the necessity for quick action, a committee was appointed to gather such furniture and as could be secured by noon Sunday The committee went to work and the truck was loaded when Sgt. Rain fell Friday night before the snow started falling.

The rain and snow brought 41 of an inch of moisture in Canyon. Farm work was brought to a standstill by this moisture. A freeze accompanied the moisture, driving the mercury down to 18 degrees above zero on Sunday morning. This is the coldest temperature of the year. However, the temperature has moderated considerably since that time.

According to farmers, about 75'; of the row crop has been harvested in Randall county. The freeze will sap the strength of the stalks and it Ls feared that mast of the row crop which has not been cut will fall when a hard wind hits. About 60', of the 1942 wheat crop has been planted, The moisture was mighty fine on the wheat which has been planted. If clear weather continues for another two weeks the balance of the crop will be in the ground. Committeemen have been at the office all this week signing up those who did not complete their pledges. This work wUl continue until Saturday All farmers who have not signed up must do so this week in order to complete the pledges of Randall county. While the pledge for increased food production Is entirely voluntary, the Randall county AAA Committee must account for every farm in the county. The quota for Randall county will be met, according to a check of the plan sheets which have been made.

Hog production will be more than doubled owing to the low production of recent years. This is one of the chiet items of increase in food for the county. Fanners have responded to the government'-- call for more food, and those working on the plan sheets are highly pleased with the results. The sign up campaign must close Saturday night, accordmg to County Agent Upchurch.
