Ross, fooled by Hobby Hampton's pump fake, fell as he switched directions and Williams trotted into the end zone with a 54-yard touchdown pass that helped The touchdown broke a 31-31 tie with 6:12 to play.

Boise State (2-1) reached the Arkansas 9 with slightly more than a minute to play. On fourth-and-goal from the 9, Arkansas (2-0) called time and then Boise State followed suit. The Broncos came yards behind him for Hendricks' 42-yard touchdown pass that tied the game. Hendricks was 8-of-21 in the first half against Arkansas, including 2-of-10 in the first quarter, but wound up 23-of-48 for 304 yards. After it was over, Arkansas coach Houston Nutt sought out Hendricks and gave him a hug and a pat on the head.

Nutt coached or recruited 18 of the Broncos' top 44 players before he left Boise three years ago and that was the theme of much of the pre-game publicity. Jackson returned an interception 39 yards for a touchdown and fellow first-time starter Corey Harris set up a touchdown with an interception seconds later as Arkansas jumped in front 14-0. The Razorbacks' winning drive included three Cobbs runs for 16 yards and a 14-yard pass from Hampton to Richard Smith. Cobbs finished with 174 yards on 34 attempts. On the touchdown pass, Williams was wide left and Ross had single coverage.

After Ross bit on Hampton's fake, Williams caught the floater at the Broncos' 30. It was Hampton to Williams for 75 yards that made it 24-0. Williams slapped aside defensive back Dempsey Dees twice in the final 30 yards. The next 20 minutes belonged to the Broncos. Calaycay kicked two second-quarter field goals and Boise started the second half with a seven-play, 56-yard drive that resulted in the first touchdown Arkansas had allowed in 10 quarters.

Boise went for two and the Razorbacks lost Lou Fanucchi, who waited on the right side and then headed left for Hendricks' pass. out with four wide receivers and Hart Hendricks threw to Jay Swillie on the left sideline, Cor-nerback Eddie Jackson wrestled Swillie out of bounds at the 1. "We used the best play we had," said Boise State coach Dirk Koet-ter. "It was an 8-yard play. We needed 8 12 yards." "1 was trying to keep him outside and I turned around and saw the ball coming and 1 saw he was on the 1-yard line so I just had to basically keep him from getting in the end zone," Jackson said, Arkansas led 24-0 one play deep in the second quarter and 31-14 in the third quarter, but Boise rallied as the Razorbacks suffered three straight breakdowns in the kicking game.

"We got a lead and some of our players said, 'Well, we've got a big lead, I'm getting ready to have a little mop-up Arkansas coach Houston Nutt said. "I'm just glad to get out of here and go home." Hampton said the Razorbacks' relaxing after building the big lead "showed our immaturity and inexperience." Alter Cedric Cobbs' second touchdown for Arkansas, Boise's Quintin Mikell returned the kick-off 98 yards. Moments later, Richie Butler was slow to pull the trigger on a punt and Travis Burgher blocked it. That led to Nick Calaycay's field goal that made it 31-24." Matt Swartz didn't come close on a 41-yard field goal attempt that would have put Arkansas ahead by 10 and the Broncos immediately covered 74 yards for a tie. On third-and-two, Arkansas cor-nerback Orlando Green took a couple of steps toward the line of scrimmage and Brock Forsey was 7 tW; Zf! 31 AP Photo Arkansas' Boo Williams runs for the game-winning 54-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter against Boise State Saturday evening at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

DiMarco nailed an eight-iron 143 vards directly into the bole for his only eagle of the tournament Bombers place second, Lady Bombers seventh at Stampede can produce some fatigue. "This was also our third race in eight days, that might be the only thing I would change. So 1 can see if our guys were running a little tired, you usually risk people getting sick or injured when that happens," he said. "There is a fine line between your training intensity and injury or sickness. That's the pressure I have as a coach, to find and push that edge without sending people over the edge.

"Now we're going to get back to some higher mileage this week. Well have another build up and then well cut our mileage again," Pevril added. "Hopefully, well see similar results when we get to the state meet. That's what our next phase of training will be. All in all, Pevril feels the team's training has been outstanding and that it is on pace for an outstanding finish to the season.

"The guys are really believing in what they do, that's real important in training," he said. "As a coach, 1 can give them all the workouts that I want, but unless thev good things training-wise. Even though they were sick, Derek (Curry) and Barry i Hollandt still got personal bests. They could've run a lot faster and we're all thinking we can be faster In their previous week of training, the Bombers had put in some very high mileage work outs. Last week Pevnl trimmed down the mileage and was very pleased with the fresh legs his runners featured.

"Most of our guys could sense some freshness in their legs. They finished with a lot more zip and finished a lot harder than they did last Tuesday up at West Plains he explained. That's one of the few criticisms of our team that I've had of this team, that we didn't finish that strong up at West Plains. "We finished it on this one. For our guys, the race couldn't have gone any better, whether we beat West Plains or lost to them," Pevril added.

"We couldn't have run any better." The meet was Mountain Home's third in the previous eight days, which Pevril said "It was good we finished as close as we did Tuesday up at their place, but it's still our goal to beat them," he added. "West Plains' standards are extremely high and that's where we're setting ours" All eight Bomber runners recorded a personal best in the meet, led by Eric Gross 15:20. Gross pulled away early, running 4:52 for the first mile and hitting the second-mile split at 9.50 on his way to victory. Logan Thomas was second at 15:53 to hold off West Plains' Dustin Collins (16 001. lVter Marston finished fifth at 16.05 to round out the Bombers' top-ten finishers, Barry Holland finished 25th at 16.53.

Derek Curry was 26th at 16:59, Patrick Carter placed 47th at 17:37, Chance Holland finished 99th with an 18.50 and Jason MacDonald placed 142nd with a time of 1954 The eight personal-best finishes really showed IVvril some things about his team. "That shows that they've really been working he said of his team's finish. When you get personal bests this late in the season, that means we're doing some believe in what they are doing, it's not going to be effective. "If they believe in what they are doing, the race will reflect it," Pevril added. "I'm seeing that confidence come out in their racing.

It doesn't matter if its West Plains or not, they are going to go out and try to win the race." Mountain Home's Lady Bombers didn't have as successful of an outing as their male counterparts, but posted a seventh-place finish against a very tough field of teams. West Plains rolled to the win in the meet, finishing with 42 points. St. Thomas Aquinas finished second with 82 points and defending Arkansas Class AAAAA Champion Bentonville (83 points) was third. Harrison placed sixth with 164 points and Mountain Home finished just seven points back of the Lady Goblins with a 171 total in the 14-team field.

West Plains won out on its depth, finishing its five scorers at 3-4-8-9-13. Mountain Home head coach Clint Pevnl was quite pleased with his team's runner-up finish as the Bombers continue to close in on West Plains "This shows that we are very consistent." Pevril said. "We haven't had just one good meet, we've been very consistent with our performance. W'e know that West Tlains is consistently great and is usually the favorite to win every meet they are in..
