AWAKENS AFTER EIGHT DAYS' TOTAL MENTAL OBLIVION F. Pruett's Case Still Puzzles People of Anniston (Special To The Advertiser.) ANNISTON, March 11. After eight days of oblivion, during which time he had his time divided between two hospitals and ths county jail, F.

Pruett became conscious late last night and found himself, in bed at St. Luke's Hospital, with bis mother at his bedside holding bis hand. This morning hs told a representative of The Advertiser that his mind was a blank since he finished his shopping in Birmingham a week ago last Thursday and started to take the train back to Pell City, where he was engaged in some construction work. He did not know how he got to Anniston, and did not recall being sent to Sellers' hospital, did not recall writing the letters to his parents that were found tn his pocket, could not -remember having been transferred from Sellers to the jail, nor of his few hours In jail and subsequent removal to St. Luke's.

At first he could not recall whose picture he had In his pocket but later he said it was that of a Miss Salome Durfield, of Bowling Green, whom he met while he was In Kentucky several years ago and who was recently visiting his sister, who kept a boarding house at Fourteenth street and Eighth avenue, Birmingham. His mother said she knew nothing of the lady in question nor of any other lady In whom he might have been especially Interested. There were tears In her eyes this morning as she heard him talk rationally after all the hours she had patiently sat by his bed listening to his incoherrent raving, while she prayed God for his life and the return of his reason. There Is still mystery in the case and will probably be until his mind fully clears, which the doctors say will be the case as his strength Increases. The mystery Is the whereabouts of his coat.

When Pruett was found in the Alabama hotel a week last Thursday be was costless and haa been coat-less ever since his arrival In the city, according to the beat reports obtainable. When he left Pell City to go to Birmingham to make purchases he bad a considerable sum of money with him and it Is not known whether or not he spent all of this amount for the materials he purchased. He had receips fos some of the money spent, but not for all. His mother sits by his bedside constantly, stroking his hand or making his pillows comfortable, and his brother. Guy, who is also In town, drops into the hospital from time to time to asstBt in the work of bringing about the improvement in the sick man's mental and physical condition.
