She said Criswell claimed that one youth was stabbed and the other was beaten and that they were unconscious when their bodies were placed on the railroad tracks. The deaths of Ives and Henry were ruled accidental by Dr.

Fah-my Malak, state medical examiner, but a Saline County grand jury said the deaths were homicide, based in part on the testimony of an out-of-state pathologist. Dr. Joe Burton of Atlanta, who examined the exhumed bodies, said the two were killed and their bodies placed on the tracks. Callaway was convicted by a federal jury last month on a charge of providing a weapon for use in an armea robbery and awaits sentencing. Paul William Criswell, 25, admitted possessing about six grams of cocaine for distribution and using firearms during drug transactions. U.S. District Court Judge Elsijane T. Roy will sentence Criswell after a presentenc-ing report is completed by the probation office. He faces up to 20 years on the drug count and a mandatory five years on the weapons count, which must be consecutive to any sentence imposed on the other charge.

Criswell has been in custody without bail since June, partly because of testimony by his former girlfriend, Kathy Brightop. She said during a May 25 hearing for Criswell that Criswell told her that Kevin Ives and Don Hen jyJj -A ry were killed when caught tryin to steal drugs and that he an in Benton. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert J. Govar told Mrs.
