TODAY. WED. 4V THUHS. HARRIS PKODLCTiONS The recent revival by some of the Eialto night clubs of an ancient method of trimming suckers raising checks with which their male patrons settle their wine, women and song accounts is the subject of the police department's newest crusade to make Broadway pure. Squawks from victims who have lost thousands of dollars through this check raising process are the reason for this drive according to Inspector John D.

Coutrhlin, who yesterday ordered precinct com manders to refer complaints in these eases to him in the future. The care with which the victims are selected makes prosecution hard. The system has many safe guards, and the proceeds are sub ject to several cuts. First there is the taxi driver who steers the victim to the joint and who checks the prosperity of his home when he delivers him there. Then the hostess who, between smiles, discovers the state of said victim's purse and whether he is married.
