I hen the super long-shooting guard, Derek Wittenberg, was injured.

The Wolfpack started losing, tumbled out of the Top Twenty, out of thought and respect for all of the sports writers, announcers and other experts. Wrong, Buster. One writer at that time still thought North Carolina State belonged in the 23 teams he would list to make the final eight. The man who thought was own Dub King, and he listed North arolina State as one of the powers in the F'ast who might make the final eight. We are reprinting a portion of what Dub predicted when he did a guest column for OUT LOUD, which appeared on January 14th, 1983: On the National Scene, we predict the final eight will come from these 23, keeping in mind I have no earthly idea here in early January who the at-large teams will be, what the pairings will be, of what team or teams will suffer injuries to keep performers: Here are the 23; Virginia, North Carolina.

St. Johns, Syracuse, Villanova. Georgetown and North Carolina State in the East. Indiana, Iowa. Louisville, Memphis State, Kentucky.

Auburn, Tennessee, Houston, Arkansas, Marquette, Minnesota, Missouri and Oklahoma in the mid-west, southeast and southwest. UCLA. Oregon State and Nevada Las Vegas. So had seven of the final eight, failing only on Georgia. For the uninitiated.
