the summer. Matt Picetti is a 6-4, 230-pound defensive end from Chabot College in California. A junior college teammate of MSU signee Kevin Kimball, Picetti brings athleticism to the defensive end position, Damberger said. "Matt can really run. He was a good high hurdler in high school.

He has a good frame, and reminds me of how Neal Smith looked a couple of years ago. He's a good pass rusher." Walter Grover is a 6-3, 275-pound Oxnard, Calif, native from Moorpark Junior College. He was a defensive lineman at Moorpark, but will play offensive line for the Bobcats. "Walter has tremendous athletic ability and speed for a player of his size. He runs very well, and he's an excellent student," said Damberger.

"We're glad to have him." Hysell said each of the five signees address a need for the coming season. "With our injury situation during the spring these guys will contribute immediately." said Hysell. "At the very least they will be valuable backups, and I'm confident that each could do the job right away if the need arises. Butch Damberger did a good job finding Picetti and Amato. We were lucky to find each of these guys, and we're glad to have them." The five new transfers bring MSU's total of junior college signees to nine.

Cornerback Robert- Carter from the College of the Siskiyous and safety Shon Flores of West Hills Community College, both in California, join a Bobcat secondary with only one returning full-time starter. Carter was an all-conference quarterback at Bakersfield (Calif.) High, and played that position as a freshman before moving to cornerback last year. "He's a great competitior and a good football player," said MSU assistant Butch Damberger.

"He's got a lot of athletic ability." Flores brings similar credentials to the Bobcats. He is a native of Kailua, Hawaii, where he was an all-conference quarterback in high school. He also played quarterback for a year at West Hills, but moved to safety. He was an all-conference choice last fall. "Shon is really a physical player, a hitter," Damberger said.

"That's an element we want to have in the secondary." Ken Amato is a 6-3, 225-pound linebacker that Damberger said also fills a need. "Ken is an outstanding athlete that runs really well," Damberger said. "He can rush or drop back. We think Ken is a good player to sign this late in JUNIOR GOLF International League.
