Lippman made up for that 34-to-28 defeat on a one-yard plunge and Hooper clinched it with his second extra point. 6. UP) Texas Saturday night cut down the swashbuckling giant of college football, smashing Oklahoma, 14 to 7. The Aggies cut down last year's national champion with a brutal defense and a tremendous ground game. It was the brand of ball the coaches preach: Tackle low, run hard, body block. Three times the Aggies fumbled Smaldone was the big gainer in the drive.

Guard Tom Hugo pounced on George Vucurovich's fumble on the Montana 17 to set up Denver's fifth score. Bob Friend powered it over in two plays. John Zignack returned a Montana punt 43 yards to Denver's 42 to send the Pioneers sailing toward their sixth touchdown. Hall's one-yard plunge capped the 67-yard sustained march midway in the third period. Behind sharp blocking, Frank Wargo swept around right end and rambled 49 yards for the Pioneers' seventh touchdown.

Al Waibel, breaking loose after he was trapped while attempting to pass on Montana's 30, picked up blocking and scooted to Montana's one at the opening of the fourth quarter. He punched it over on the next play. downs carried the leather to the Bozeman 20 with Ewing carting the ball to the Bozeman three. McDermott plunged over for the touchdown with one minute left in the half. Myers' placement was wide.

Gene Shaw's long sprint plus Jim Hughes place-kick early in the fourth narrowed the gap. At that juncture, a short pass from Myers to End Ed Berquist in the flat sent Berquist racing from the Billings 45, to the Bozeman two. Ewing plunged over from there for the last Bronc score. Myers placement found it mark. The long-passing Bozeman fullback, Frank Hoey, raced back 10 yards from the Billings 40 late in the fourth period to hit Jerry Shaw near the Bronc 10 for the closing Bozeman T.D.

Shaw stepped off the remaining yards unmolested. Jandt's placement was wide. The Broncs return to Big Six conference warfare on October 13 when Annapolis, Oct. 6. (IP) Princeton held off Navy's late surge to beat the Midshipmen 24 to 20 for its fifteenth straight football victory here Saturday.

All-American Halfback Dick Kai-maier passed to three touchdowns and Jack Newell's left-footed 13-yard field goal supplied the winning points. Vanderbilt Upsets Alabama Crimson Tide By Score of 22 to 20 Nashville, Tenn. Oct. 6 (JP) Halfback Dick Foster, slashing, dashing and kicking like a demon, powered an underdog Vanderbilt Commodore eleven to a 22-to-20 upset victory over Alabama's Crimson Tide Saturday. It was Foster's 39-yard field goal in the third period which was the eventual margin of victory.

In addition he churned his way to a personal total of 105 yards on 15 carries with the ball which was instrumental in all Vanderbilt's scoring. Vanderbilt twice came from behind to beat the Alabamans who were favored three to four Denver. UP) Denver's smooth-passing, hard-running Pioneers exploded in the second quarter for 27 points and then sailed on for a 55-to-0 Skyline conference football victory over Montana's bewildered Grizzlies Saturday night. The turning point came in the opening minute of the second period when a Montana gamble failed. On fourth down on the Grizzlies' 26, Bobbie Byrne tried to plunge one foot to a first down. The Denver line stopped him cold. In five plays Denver drove to the Montana 14 from where Joe Hall rambled across.

That broke the boys from the north and then Denver poured it on with ridiculous ease. The Pioneers didn't have to punt once during their scoring feast. Montana's only penetration of Denver territory in the first three quarters was early in the opening period when the Grizzlies drove to the 23 where Bob Yurko fumbled and Denver recovered. With two minutes to play Montana got across midfield once again when Denver gave up the ball on downs on their 48. In the last minute Dick Lind-sey intercepted a Denver pass on the 38.

An estimated 3,500 fans watched the contest in near-perfect fall weather. The Orange and Black preps grabbed off an early lead and held it all the way, but could never open up a commanding lead over the surprisingly strong class A Bozeman team. The Hawks almost matched Billings when it came to ground-gaining statistics and outclassed the Ponies in the air. Still, Bozeman's line couldn't stall the Broncs in the early stages of the fray and only once forced Billings to punt in the first half. After racking up two quick touchdowns in the first period and still another in the second canto, Billings led, 19 to 6 at halftime.

Both clubs bogged down in the third. In the fourth round, a length-of-the-field run by Gene Shaw put the Hawks back in the game until the Broncs rallied to shove their last tally across for what proved to be the winning margin. A 30-yard heave in the closing minutes of play rounded out the final score. Right Halfback Duke McDermott personally accounted for three of the four Billings T.D.s. Jerry Shaw collected two for Bozeman with brother Gene Shaw scoring the other Gallatin counter.

Denver's fourth score came on a sustained 75-yard march, climaxed by Gene Smaldone's one-yard dash on fourth down. A 31-yard dash by yardage in rather healthy chunks but couldn't keep a sustained drive underway. The spread T-forma-tion employed by the Gallatin crew paid off on an occasional double-reverse, a few end plays and especially well when it came to passes. Gene Shaw's 100-yard gallop was the outstanding run of the ball game. The Bozeman back watched a Billings punt from the Bozeman 39 yard line run roll almost to his own goal line.

Picking up the leather, he appeared to circle back of the line, and began filtering his way through the onrushing Broncs all the way to the opposite end of Greybull Defeats Basin, 68-13 Springfield 34, Bates 12. The Grey-bull Buffs remained undefeated in conference play here Saturday night as they overran the Basin Bobcats, 68 to 13. The rampaging Buffs, who scored at will throughout the contest, picked up their yardage on power plays through the line. Gerald Porters scored twice and Frank Werbelow once for the locals in the first quarter and Wedbelow picked up another counter in the second frame.

Walrath scored for Basin in the second quarter and the Buffs led, 27 to 6, at halftime. Porter, shifty tailback, opened the show in the third canto when he took the Basin kickoff and went 80 yards to score. Also getting in the T.D. column that quarter were Bob Whitlock (twice) and Robert took the kickoff from its own 35-yard line and started a sustained drive from that point to score. Helped along by long runs by Ron Ewing and McDermott, the Broncs rolled to the 19 from where McDermott skirted left end to hit pay dirt.

Bill Myers placement was blocked. Minutes later, Jim Peterson Intercepted a Bozeman pass on the 50 to start the next Billings drive. Two plays afterwards, Myers flipped a pass to Maury Colberg for 19 yards. Then, from the 15-yard-line, Mc When thjf icn flU Irelcofl. 1S Sydney 6.
