Hearing set on home proposal WHITEHALL, Wis.

An informational hearing on the rebuilding project proposed by the Golden Age Home will be Tuesday from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Whitehall Country Club. Home Administrator Mrs. Marlys Griffiths was notified last October the home's proposal to move to Pigeon Falls had been rejected by the Wisconsin Division of Health Policy and Planning. The proposal was made because the present building no longer meets state and federal nursing home requirements, there is not enough room to rebuild at the Whitehall site, and remodeling would be too expensive, Mrs.

Griffiths said. Estimated cost of the building proposed at Pigeon Falls was $840,000. The Home is presently preparing an appeal to the Wisconsin Division of Health Policy and Planning for reconsideration of the project. Anyone with questions on the appeal procedure or the informational meeting should contact the Golden Age Home. Lunch will be served following themeeting.

Man loses Very cold weather is forecast In the northern half of the nation from the Rockies to the northeast. Snow is forecast for most of the Plains and for most of New England. Below normal temperatures are forecast for much of the South. (AP Laserphoto) Life in deep freeze continues Life in a deep freeze, the saga of winter in Southeast Minnesota, will continue through Wednesday, according to the weatherman. In fact, his forecast calls for temperatures overnight to drop to 25 to 32 below zero, with the high Tuesday from 10 to five below, and the high Wednesday ranging from two above to 12 below.

However, a warming trend Thursday and Friday could bring temperatures up to the low 20s. Sunday's high was a cold and frosty eight below, dropping overnight to a minus 12 reading. Record high for this date is 50 set in 1928 and the record low 30 below set in 1881. Heavy snows, cold temperatures and a resulting shortage of natural gas gave millions a bitter taste of winter in the Midwest, Northeast and Southeast, and there was promise of more to come. Winter storm warnings or heavy snow warnings were posted this morning in parts of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, New York and New England.

Strong winds created blizzard conditions across parts of Illinois and Indiana, and all schools In Indianapolis were closed today. Residents of many communities in Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Kansas were urged to turn their thermostats as low as possible. A spokesman for Cities Utilities in Springfield, warned that "pilot lights would start going out" if calls for conservation were not heeded. In Wisconsin, Sunday temperatures fell as low as 60 degrees below zero in Rice Lake and 54 below in Solon Springs. Readings from zero to 20 below were common from North Dakota to Oklahoma.
