(AP) The Lander Elementary School Board of trustees has awarded a $1,352,249 contract to the Fred Hanson Construction Co. of Thermopolis to construct a swimming pool complex here.

The large indoor facility will have three separate pools, including one olympic-sized pool, plus indoor seating facilities. The board agreed to delete about $70,000 in equipment from the project so the total cost will be in line with a bond issue passed by Lander voters last year. The board said some of the bond issue money had to be used to pay for bonding costs, fees to architects and interest. The pool project is expected to be completed by October 1977. Also Wednesday night, the Lander High School board of trustees signed a $408,305 contract with Majors Equipment Co.

The company has six months to complete the project, which was prompted by an influx of students into the community because of an increased number of uranium workers in the area. ered irregularities in the records kept at the state institution. The audit said inventory at the facility wasn't properly controlled, employe pay and classification records weren't up to date and that too many staff members had access to drugs kept in the home's pharmacy.

The audit also said drugs at the home weren't inventoried properly. i Griffith said inventories of property at the home have been completed, employe payrolls have been updated, new locks have been installed in the pharmacy and a local pharmacist has been hired to dispense drugs to the residents at the home and to staff members. In a cover letter to the audit, Griffith said the State Board of Charities and Reform had been lax in its responsibility for overseeing the general operation of the Pioneer Home. He said the board, composed of the five elected state officials, had relied on former board executive secretary Lloyd Hovee to maintain control of the institution, and he failed to do so. Hovee resigned as executive secretary two months ago.

Several of the recommendations in the audit are similar to some made three years ago following a review of the home by the Legislative Service Office, Griffith said. He said those recommendations should have been followed at the time. Griffith said the Board of Charities and Reform and its staff weren't aggressive enough to see that the changes were made. He said he intends to make similar audits of the other state institutions as soon as possible. Investments earn state money CHEYENNE, Wyo.
