Columbia turned on its ancient nemesis, Cornell, before 40,000 football fans at the Polo grounds yesterday afternoon and for the first time since 1904 triumphed over the Ithacans.

The score was 17 to 9. The Blue and White came from behind to win, overcoming a 9 point handicap in the first half by two long runs by Furey and Rieger for touchdowns in the third quarter. Capt. Bill Madden added a field goal in the final period. First Period.

Carey kicked off for Cornell. Rieger carried it back to his own 28 yard line. Columbia failed to gain after several attempts at center and then punted to Cornell's 30 yard line. Cornell tried the Blue line, but could not get beyond their 40 yard mark and was forced to punt. Columbia worked back to the Red's 34 yard line, where Columbia kicked to Cornell's 30 yard mark.

Rosenberg and Hoekleman made two first downs. Molinet made a third first down by a plunge through center, placing the ball on the Blue's 25 yard mark. Balderston another 5 yards through center. Hoekleman made another first down, placing the ball on the Blue's 10 yard mark. Rosenberg and Hoekleman worked it up to Columbia's 3 yard mark, where Columbia held fast and took the ball on downs.

Rieger tried to kick but was blocked by Cornell man, and made a safety which scored two points for Cornell. Columbia kicked off to Cornell's 40 yard line as the period ended. SCORE: Cornell Columbia 0. Second Period. Cornell started the second period by feeling out the Blue line and worked the ball to Columbia's 40 yard line, where Cornell fumbled.

Rieger and Rosenberg worked Cornell's left end for a first down, but a fumble by Columbia lost the ball. Balderston and Hoekleman carried it to Columbia's 35 yard line. Again Balderston smacked through the Blue line for five yards and with persistent plunging, Balderston advanced the ball to Columbia's 6 yard line. Molinet and Balderston carried it to the Blue's 1 yard line, where Molinet plunged over for a touchdown. Carey kicked goal, making the score Cornell 9, Columbia 0.

Cornell kicked off and Madden raced back to Columbia's 40 yard mark, whence Rieger made a splendid dash around right end for twelve yards. Then two aerials by Rieger failed, but on the third trial Rieger made a splendid long heave to Furey, who raced to Cornell's 3 yard line as the whistle blew ending the half. SCORE: Cornell 9, Columbia Third Period. on two off tackle plays Kaplan and Rieger made a first down, but Smith threw Kaplan for a 4 yard loss and the Lion punted. Rosenberg's lateral pass was intercepted by Furey, who raced 50 yards down an open field for Columbia's first score.

Madden added the point. SCORE: Cornell 9, Columbia 7. Dobie's men made three first downs, employing chiefly short forward passes, but Rieger intercepted Rosenberg's forward pass on Columbia's 25 yard line and shortly afterward went around a boxed left end for a 70 yard dash and Columbia's second touchdown. Madden kicked goal as the period ended. SCORE: Columbia 14, Cornell 9.

Brown Bear of Providence refuses to be stopped in his march to the mythical eastern football title. Having crushed Yale last week he invaded Memorial field here today and defeated Jesse Hawley's illfated Dartmouth eleven, 10 to 0. Red Randall made the only touchdown of the game in the second period and Mishel kicked the extra point. He hasn't missed one all season. Mishel booted a field goal from the 30 yard mark during the closing minutes of the final period.

Some 20,000 fans, the full capacity of the field, witnessed the struggle. Eddie Dooley, the fleet-footed Green back, got into the game, busted hand and all, but wasn't of any great assistance to his badly harassed mates. First Period. The Green made three first downs in the first two minutes. Harris made the first on two sharp thrusts through tackle, and two short passes, 'Harris to Lane, accounted for the other two.

A series of passes by Harris, MePhail, Cole and Lane advanced the ball from midfield to a first down on Brown's 8 yard mark. Here Harris fumbled and Towle fell on the ball and the Dartmouth advance was checked. Fumbles were frequent from then on. When the period ended the Bruins were camped on the Green's 36 yard line. Second Period. Mishel startled the crowd by attempting a field goal from Dartmouth's 43-yard line, but his boot fell outside of the uprights. A punting duel ensued between Randall and Lane, but nobody got anywhere. Lane made twenty yards on a pass from Davis, but was ineligible to receive it and Dartmouth lost the ball on its own 43-yard line. Lawrence made 25 yards on a forward pass.

J. started another successful march from midfield to 5 yard line. Heisel scored right end. Edwards made extra point. SCORE: W.

J. 10, ette 0. Second Period. Lafayette opened offense at midfield. Wilson carried ball to 10 yard line.

W. and J. held on the 4 yard line and Lafayette lost the ball. Amos punted out of danger. Heisler intercepted a Lafayette pass on Lafayette's 30 yard line.

It was his fifteenth consecutive one point boot of the season. Dooley went in for Harris during the last few minutes, but he was of little help to the Green. Lawrence squirmed through a broken field for 35 yards after receiving Phillips's kick. Following an exchange of punts, Lawrence, Randall and Mishel moved the ball to Dartmouth's 20 yard line by but some old-fashioned line smashing, Randall tried to work a delayed pass and was tossed for an 18 yards loss. Dartmouth passed her way down to Brown's 35 ard line and lost the ball on a fumble.

Randall was forced to punt on fourth down and Dartmouth got the ball in midfield. More more passes, punting and more fumbles, but no further scoring. SCORE: Brown, Dart- mouth, 0. Fourth Period. In a last frantic effort to stem the tide of defeat, Dartmouth again resorted to line bucking, and McPhail tore through for a first down on the second play of the period.

Cornsweet fell on Harris's punt on Brown's 25 yard mark, and Randall booted it right back into Green territory. Dooley again replaced the energetic but overworked Mr. Harris and threw a long pass from midfield which Mishel intercepted on his own 25 yard line. to get anywhere via the overhead, from route, the Mishell 30 booted he yard mark in the last few minutes of play. FINAL SCORE: Brown, 10; Dartmouth, 0.

CELTICS PLAY CELTICS PLAY The Original Celtics, New York's representatives in the National Basketball league, will meet the Paterson-Kingston five at Hackensack, N. tonight. By WALTER RYAN. Chick Meehan's undefeated New York university eleven met the fighting Maroon team from Ford-: ham for the championship of the metropolitan district before a banner crowd at the Yankee stadium yesterday afternoon. Fully 25,000 fans were in the stands when the opening whistle was blown.

New York university won, 27 to 3, First Period. Fordham took the lead in the Zev opening Graham period. A field goal by from the 25 yard line the Violet eleven. The Maroon gave them a 3 point margin over outplayed the Violet during the entire period. After an exchange of punts which put the ball on their own 20 yard line, they started an aerial attack which brought them to N.

Y. 25 yard line. They lost the ball on downs, but N. Y. fumbled on the first play, Fordham recovering.

After three successful attempts at the line, Graham then dropped back and kicked the field goal. SCORE: Fordham 3, N. Y. U. 0 Second Period.

Fordham maintained her threepoint advantage in the second period by remaining on the defensive throughout the entire quar ter. Twice N. Y. U. brought the ball to within inches of the Fordham goal line, but the Fordham line held and the Maroon took the ball on downs each time.

N. Y. U. resorted to the aerial game in this period. A pass, Strong to Connor, was good for a 35 yard gain and brought the ball to Fordham's 16 yard line, and Strong on an end run advanced to Fordham's 5 yard line.

Four tries at the line gained only four yards and Fordham took the ball. Third Period. was blocked. Fourth Period. N.

Y. U. had many scoring opportunities but on each occasion Fordham managed to hold. 0'Connor put Fordham in trouble at the kickoff by fumbling on his own 20 yard line, Dunn of N. Y.

U. recovering. Meehan's boys could do nothing against Fordham's line and O'Connor tried for a placement kick which went wide. Fordham put the ball in play on her own 20 yard line and Conboy fumbled on the first play. N.

Y. U. again recovered and O'Connor tried for a field goal, which went wide. Fordham then got her aerial attack into play again and two passes, Delaney to Conboy, and a wide sweep around end by Graham advanced the ball to N. Y.

J. 10, Lafayette 9. Fourth Period. Ride intercepted a Lafayette pass early in the period and gave W. J.

the ball on Lafayette's 45 yard line. Guest intercepted a W. J. pass. Guests's punt was partially blocked and Kirkman caught it in midfield.

Cook ran to 20 yard line. Lafayette took the ball on downs. A long pass, Kirkleski to McGarvey, put the ball on the W. J. 4 yard line.

Guest scored through center. Cochran made the extra point. FINAL SCORE: Lafayette 16, W. J. 10.

Immediately after the kickoff Fordham started an aerial attack, and Strong intercepted one of Delaney's, heaves and galloped 25 yards for anothe touchdown. Connor also added the extra point. N. Y. U.
