Talliot Court Houfe, May 14, 1774. ALARMED at the prelent fituation of America, and impreiled with the moll tender feelings for the diltrelles of their brethren and fellow fubjects in BoIon, a number of gentlemen having met at this place, took into their lerious confideration the part they ought to act as friends to liberty, and td the trenefal mtaeits of mankind. To prelcrve the rights, and to fecure the property of the fubjeit, they apprehend, is the end of government. But when thole right are invaded when the mode pre firribed by the laws for the punilhment of offences, and obtaining juilice, is difregarded and fpurned when, without being heard in their defence, force is employed, and the fevereii penalties are inflicted; the people, they clearly conceive, have a right not only to complain, but li'kewiie to exert their utmoft endeavours to prevent the effect of luch meafures, as may be adopted by a weik or corrupt miniftry to deftroy their liberties, deprive them of their property, and rob' them of their deareft birthright as Britons. Imprefled with the warmeft real for, and lo airy to their molt gracious lbvereign, arid with the molt firi cerce aiftftn for their fellow fubjetfs in Great Britain, They are determined, calmly and fteadily, to unite with the ir fellow fubjects, in purfuing every legal and Conltitutional niealiue, to avert the evils threatened by P0 and 10 fupPLort the C01 rights of uni" harmony be thr emother country and her colonies, on which the prekrvation of both muft finally depend!
