Associated Press Damian Owens scored 13 of his 24 points over the final 8:23, after West Virginia had blown a 17-point lead, leading the Mountaineers to an 86-81 victory over No. 20 Georgia. The Mountaineers (9-1) posted their fourth straight victory despite a rally that saw Georgia (7-3) overcome a 50-33 deficit with 16:20 remaining to gain a tie at 56 with 9:20 to play. Owens put West Virginia in front to stay, converting a three-point play for a 59-56 lead with 8:23 remaining.

Greg Jones added 17 points for the Mountaineers, including seven after Georgia had forged the tie. Adrian Pledger scored 15 for West Virginia and Brian Lewin had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Ray Harrison led the Bulldogs with 23 points, including four 3-pointers, while G.G. Smith added 15 points. Harrison and Jon Nordin sparked the Georgia rally that began with 15:26 remaining on a layup by Harrison and ended when Nordin scored on a dunk with 9:20 to play, making it 56-56.

North Carolina led by as many as 11 points in the game, the last time at 63-52 midway through the second half on a three-point play by Carter, a Daytona Beach native who was making a return to his home state. Xavier rally falls short against Purdue Greer opened the half with three straight 3-pointers, boosting Rutgers' lead to 39-30. Temple had trouble finding good shots, but closed within 41-37 on Brokenborough's steal and breakaway layup with 15:08 to play. But Rutgers' long range shooting helped the Scarlet Knight pull away. With a 44-37 lead, the Scarlet Knights made four straight 3-pointers. Hodgson, Johnson, Hodgson again and then Billet hit from outside, giving Rutgers a 56-45 lead.

Xavier rallied from a 20-point deficit in the second half to lead 84-83 with 1:43 to play when Pat Kelsey hit the first of two free throws. He missed the second and Purdue got the rebound. Cardinal, who scored 10 points, then got open underneath for a layup with 1:24 left to put Purdue ahead.
